View Full Version : Boxed SNES PAL version + Mario All-Stars/World cart

Local Goodwill has a boxed (no manuals that I could see) PAL Snes with a copy of Mario All-Stars/World cart. Looks like all the cables are there. The box is kinda in rough shape. But it had a $65 price tag on it so it didn't bite. But I'm curious about what they typicly go for and and how desirable they are (in the US)

That one was boxed. Loose systems with hookups are worth about the same as US systems, around $30-$40.

Can PAL systems play Super Famicom games? I know it's similar form factor.
Edit: actually it's not exactly that one. Mine is All-Stars+World single cart. And says '5-Games' on the box.

Similar form factor but European/Australian is PAL and Super Famicom is NTSC, you'll need a converter. You might as well play Super Famicom on a North American system with a converter, or just get a Japanese console.

Most PAL consoles are exceedingly rare in the US. Due to lack of demand.
Often misinformed US ebay sellers list NTSC consoles as "PAL", making them appear more common here than reality.

I suppose the question is, are there any significant PAL region-only games worth owning this thing for?

Not really. Far better to get a way of playing Japan exclusives. Same as N64, US/JP/KR share region code.

There's Terranigma, it's pretty much the main reason to get a PAL SNES. Not only is it a PAL game, it's one of the few that's difficult to get working on a NTSC system with actual converters. Only a few of the converters out there can get it working properly on a North American SNES system and they're either very rare or very expensive.
There's a few other PAL only games but they're not really must play type games, mostly Daze Before Christmas comes to mind.

PAL SNES games have a different lockout chip than NTSC consoles, so you won't be able to play NTSC games (Japanese or US) without a converter or game enhancer that can override the lockout.
