Well considering that the Advance is backwards-compatible....

Indeed. What an odd question. The term "shooters and fighters" is also open-ended an open to interpretation.

I know there was the Terminator 2 arcade game ported to the first gameboy, it looked like crap, and Street Fighter 2 was too, but thats a pure button masher like the SMS version. Id say a game that only has 2 buttons wont be god for fighting games really, but you should probably look at the Neo Geo pocket color since you want fighting and shooting games.

I assume he means "shooters" like Gradius or R-Type... both of which are on Gameboy by the way (Gradius is known as Nemesis in some regions)

and as for "fighters"... well, there's supposed to be a surprisingly decent port of Street Fighter Alpha. I think I heard that Samurai Shodown for GB was actually decent too.

Power Quest (GBC) is apparently quite good as far as fighters go. But like I said, "fighters" is an open-ended term. "Shooters" could just as easily encompass things like Operation C.

Perhaps the OP would be kind enough to enlighten us.

I ordered most of the ones listed. Is there a list of SNK games for the system?

I ordered most of the ones listed. Is there a list of SNK games for the system?1. SNK's releases for the Game Boy aren't necessarily all good.
2. SNK technically only released Dexterity, King of Fighters '95, and King of Fighters '96 for the Game Boy. Metal Slug Advance was developed by Noise Factory. King of Fighters EX was developed by Artoon and Marvelous Entertainment, at least according to Mobygames.

Nemesis was actually a game in the Gradius series.

Mercenary Force is an interesting game, it is a shooter or at least plays like one but isn't in space like most shooters. There's also Sagaia, it wasn't released in North America on the Gameboy but if you can find a copy it's pretty fun. I'm trying to think of more games, it's been awhile since I've played any on the Gameboy.

Gradius Galaxies is a fine GBA title. If you like a kind of run and gun mixed with fly and shoot type shooter Sega/Treasure did a game of Gunstar Super Heroes for the GBA which you can get dirt cheap. The SNES game Phalanx and Pocky & Rocky both got ported over as well and are worth a look.

imho, the best shmup for the original Gameboy is ZAS. Import only I believe and fairly rare even as a loose cart. Very, very hard to find boxed.

AeroStar from Sunsoft is a fun shooter for the original GB.
