First, I'll apologize for not doing any research anywhere first, but I saw the "last PS2 release?" thread again, and wondered about how close to the end of the PSP (UMD version) life we are, or have we already hit it? I was collecting PSP games fairly aggressively, but I've cut way back on all my game buying and haven't picked up any new ones in a while, but still, I'm curious if we've seen a cap on releases yet, or will soon.

Ragnarok Tactics and Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 are still slated. It's possible PES could get canceled for the US, or end up rare.
Konami has some history with now-expensive smaller print run American soccer games.

I'm pretty sure Ragnarok Tactics will be one of if not the last PSP physical UMD releases. I've yet to preorder but I probably will do so sometime this week just to not have to worry about finding it later on.

Ragnarok Tactics will probably be the last US release, but isn't there still a market in Japan?

The state of the PSP in the US really is a shame considering there are still a fair number of interesting games coming out but they're all digital-only now. Us collectors who want physical releases are pretty much screwed.

I'm hoping Aksys will localize atleast one more PSP game for UMD release after Ragnorok Tactics, if they are feeling crazy enough. Also, I'm still clinging to the idea of a Persona 2: Eternal Punishment PSP localization and UMD release from Atlus as well.

PSP is still selling in Japan. In fact, three of the top 10 selling video games last week (in Japan) were for the PSP.

As for the US, Ragnarok Tactics is the last announced release, and that's in November. You never know when they'll announced another though.

I was in my local Walmart a few weeks ago and literally saw maybe a half dozen PSP games. If that's any indicator, I don't think there's gonna be much coming for PSP UMD games other than a few shitty sports titles? Whatever remaining games that are coming for it will probably be digital downloads. Good thing there's a huge used PSP game market out there.

Thanks for the responses guys!

PSP games are definitely getting thin on the ground; and it's not like I've looked a ton, but I don't think I've seen a NEW title in months.

I would be glad if the PSP Suikoden spinoff even gets a digital release in the US! I would support that even if it wasn't physical, just like I did with Vandal-Hearts: Flames of Judgement. If that game wasn't so short it could have been good enough for yet another sequel.

If the Vita doesnt surpass the PSP then people who like making homebrew games will most likely choose it for their projects like with the Dreamcast, so who knows.

PSP is currently my favorite handheld system I own, I love a lot of games for it.

I really wish it wasn't dying out, I really can't afford a Vita.

The latest issue of EGM had a lengthy roundtable discussion about what's going to happen in 2013. One of the things the talked about was the PSP. They said that new releases keep happening in Japan, and that Sony has pretty much forgotten about the system, so they aren't charging developers fees anymore. They think that some of these Japanese games will come to the US because it's cheaper than ever to do so (I'm not sure if they mean download or UMD). They also said some of the games they've been releasing in Japan are considered wacky by US standards.

Anyway, PSP in America MAY not be over, and in Japan it's far from over.

It's amazing how well the PSP is still doing in Japan. Just about every week it outsells the Vita according to The-magicbox sales reports.

Hopefully XSeed or Axys will pick up some more titles for UMD release, although I would imagine that any stateside physical release for the PSP at this point would be a huge gamble. If anything new games will probably be strictly digital.

I just picked up Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time last week from Fry's. Amazon is your best bet for the latest titles.

Class of Heroes 2 may still get a physical release even though the Kickstarter didn't pan out. Vic said they'll be printing only as many copies preordered as long as they get the minimum amount.

Here you go: Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi (http://www.amazon.com/z/dp/B00A39IF7I/?tag=digitalpress-20) releases on 2013-02-26.

The men of the hit series Hakuoki are back and ready for some action! Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi will be available for the PSP system, offering fans cut-‘em-down action, yet staying true to its Hakuoki roots with a powerful story of adventure. Play as Saito, Hijikata or the four other main characters from the Hakuoki series in an alternate storyline and change the fate of the Shinsengumi, or relive the events of Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom. Unlock two characters for use in free play, and use special attacks and deadly strikes to plow through hordes of enemies in this action-packed follow-up to the 2012 hit!

The listing says that it will have a bonus item, but there is no indication what this might be or if it is an Amazon.com exclusive.

(And Ragnarok Tactics (http://www.amazon.com/z/dp/B008BERJEM/?tag=digitalpress-20) was released on November 6th, 2012 for those who are interested.)

Interesting, that Hakuoki game wasn't listed on Allgame, which is the site I use to see all the upcoming releases for all the systems. The PSP lives on.

There hasn't been an update in a very long time and the last rumors I heard were that it would be a download only.

I think Gaijinworks is talking about doing Class of Heroes 3 on a UMD for the PSP next year.

If we're counting Europe, the UMD version of Elminage Original also came out recently (the only English UMD print run of the game in the world, seeing as the US only got a digital release). And for all of the talk about Class of Heroes 2 being so extremely rare and collectible and all the buyers afraid to open their copies, its print run is actually several times that of Elminage (around 2500 versus Elminage's 300). But screw all the people who just want to sit on a paperweight. I bought both, with full intention to play those UMDs, and have already removed the plastic wrap and browsed the manuals.

But yeah, supposedly we'll be getting Class of Heroes 3 eventually, and possibly more Class of Heroes games or other PSP games (on UMD). While delays and disorganization are the name of the game with Working Designs/Gaijinworks, I'm not getting my hopes up for many more UMD releases before they move on to the Vita or whatever, but with them already working on the localization of CoH3, I think our odds are good on that one.

Fifa 13, Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, NBA 2K13 and Phineas & Ferb all got released on UMD in the States last fall. Own two of those myself. Haven't seen any US UMD releases since that wave last year. Fifa 14 is only available via download in the US (no UMD coming) and PES 2014 is not getting a US release on UMD.

That is not a US version. Look at the rating on the box, its not a ESRB rating. I ran into this three times in a row trying to buy Crash: Mind Over Mutant. I was always assured it was a US copy but three times I was sent a Euro Greatest Hits copy. I had to wait to find an auction with an actual picture of the box itself before I found a US version.

Indeed it did.

When trying to find out what late releases saw the light of day in the US I use a combination of three things:

Gamefaqs- Find the game, look under release data and it has the release date for all regions.
Gamestop- Search the website, unless it is something like Class of Heroes 2 it will probably show up.
Ebay- Find a listing with a real picture of the game where you can determine the region.
