Zothecula writes "Video game developers are always looking for new ways to give players a more immersive experience. But with several motion-controlled systems widely available and a viable virtual reality headset in the works, what else could be done to make games seem more realistic? Sony may have an unexpected answer with a recent patent that describes a controller that changes temperature between hot and cold to match in-game actions. With the controller giving 'temperature feedback,' the idea is that players would be able to more closely feel what their character feels, from getting hit with a fireball to traveling through a blizzard." http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png (http://twitter.com/home?status=Sony+Files+Patent+For+Temperature+Feed back+Move+Controller%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FR9BE id) http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png (http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhardware.slashdot.org%2F story%2F12%2F10%2F17%2F1418222%2Fsony-files-patent-for-temperature-feedback-move-controller%3Futm_source%3Dslashdot%26utm_medium%3D facebook) http://www.gstatic.com/images/icons/gplus-16.png (http://plus.google.com/share?url=http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/12/10/17/1418222/sony-files-patent-for-temperature-feedback-move-controller?utm_source=slashdot&utm_medium=googleplus)

God, that would require TONS of juice. I don't think they could pull that off with a wireless controller unless they stuff a HUGE battery in there :/

So much closer, yet still so far.

I don't want my controller getting hot, but a self cooling controller would be good (almost said it would be cool, doh!), sort of like a next gen airflow controller. But SO don't need it tying into the game action, though.

That sounds really stupid and a good way to fry the wires and button censors. Why not make it vibrate again? Didnt they make it do that to make you feel what the character felt?
