Anyone remember this?

Microsoft made only 1000 of them, only available from their website, and you had to live in Japan. It came with a custom message engraved on it.

You had to live in Japan and have a credit card, but I didn't live in Japan or have a credit card.

However, thinking this was all kinds of awesome and determined, I made a friend and took a risk and asked them to get one for me. They sold out in a matter of hours, so I had to inform my friend to be waiting online for midnight. Several years later I actually picked it up from them, but to this day I've never even opened the cardboard box it was shipped in. To be honest, I don't remember what I had engraved, and MS deleted the hotmail account I was using at the time for inactivity.

I want to be proud of this crowning jewel of my collection (another contender would be the Gamecube Biohazard box set I got at a company raffle when I worked at Capcom Japan that's tagged as company property), but today even the Wikipedia entry of Xbox editions doesn't list the correct info on it, and doing a google or auction search almost always just brings up info on the stupid white 360, and if I try to brag about it people are just like, Oh, the Panzer Dragoon one?

No, not that one! It's better than that stupid one because it's numbered with an engraving!

I want my Pure White Xbox to be more recognized :)

Nothing stupid about the Orta Xbox, my friend. It's one of the few limited edition consoles I'd like to get my hands on.

It's so much better because you've never opened it so you've never seen it yourself and can't even remember what the "crowning jewel" of your collection has engraved on it?

So add it.

Indeed it is. I think I'll ad a KLOV style comment: pics or it didn't happen.

Of course that's tongue in cheek.

I just mean objectively the PWX should be even rare-er.

I've always thought that I should leave it until I finally get a proper place to live and can keep everything stored well.

This god-forsaken island I live on has such humidity that even game manuals will warp all to hell after a few years, and my collection is scattered across three countries, so I'm just waiting to enshrine my rarities in a proper game room if I ever make it to that stage in life.

Also, I like the idea of having something to look forward to at that time.

Like, one day, when I'm finally ready, I can open the box and say, "OH YEAH, THAT's what I had engraved on it. Boy was I stupid back then!"

And I can stand back and gaze on the opulence.

Opening it now in this slummy duplex would just ruin the experience.

Your logic... it oozes.

Hopefully if you ever actually open the shipping box after years of sitting in Japan before you claimed it and then years of storage in your home, you'll discover that it's indeed what you think it is (and that it's intact with the casing having not faded and the console still operable) rather than something else in there by mistake or worse...

Of course give it a few more years and you'll never remember what was supposed to be inside there anyways. ;)

The Japanese one is cool, but you should go for the white American version too:
