It seems that the standard gamecube deal nowadays is like The Cube and either the game boy player or one game, for $149.99 or something like that. Anyone else spot anything better? I was considering getting a gamecube for when Mario Kart Double Dash comes out around November 17-18, and I was wondering if the deals would improve significantly between now and then or not. If not I'd just buy it now.

There may be a price cut before then, but I doubt it.

There may be a price cut before the holidays, I can't say for sure. But the free game/gameboy player offer ends on August 30th.

KB Toys has a deal where you get the GC for $129.99 with the purchase of any game. Now I wonder if you can do that AND get the GB player for free. I don't see why not. That is a great deal. I got My GC at EB Games with the free player, the game "Driven", and the preview disc for $149.99. Another sweet deal there as well!

Regarding the comment above, I don't think that's a good deal at all. Driven is a crap game and the price you got the package at wasn't great. Sorry, but I think the deals that are available now are far better than the one you got.
I have seen the $129 deal in a few places. The best bet is to get it with Zelda. Metroid Prime is a better game (in my opinion) but it's cheaper to buy Metroid Prime pre-owned than it is to buy Zelda. You can then just buy Metroid Prime used and save $15.

How is $150 for my setup a bad deal? Sure, Driven isn't all that great, but it was a game for free. Also, the GB player which retails for $49.99 alone was given to me free. And a preview disc (whoopee) ...but still, something else for free. All for the price of what the GC retails at alone usually. A good deal IMHO.

I didn't say you got a bad deal, just that, in my opinion, it wasn't a particularly good one. The GB player is a nice accessory to get with it, it's just a shame about Driven. Yeah, it's a free game but, like anything else, it's only a bargain if you would have wanted it anyway.

the K B in our area has the $129 deal also but it's a console and ANY game. Not necessarily an GC game, could be one of the $9.00 games on the discount table out front, and it could not be the GC bundle pack with games or the bundle with the GB player

This deal convinced me to buy a GameCube! Got the system at Best Buy (ugh) with the preview disc, my choice of game (Metroid Prime), and a generic 'starter pack' with one controller, a cord extension, a disc travel case, and I think one other stupid thing... for $150.

Hey, congratulations on your purchase! Another fellow GC owner to shoot the breeze with :) I'm sure you will enjoy the system...Metroid Prime is an excellent game. If you are into Gameboy titles you may want to look into the player down the road...it's really nice and will expand the library of games you shop for tenfold.

You know, I actually had my choice between Driven and Waverace. WHY I didn't choose Waverace I don't know. I really didn't know much about the games when I purchased the system, and a racing title sounded pretty good as a starter....but definitely not this title. It's not really bad, but it's not really good either.

Yeah, I have a Gamecube and Metroid Prime is a great game. I'm not sure it's going to have much replay value once I finish it, but a great experience nonetheless.
I feel it's such a shame that Nintendo have had to reduce the price of the Cube to $129. I think they've really screwed up with the marketing and the games and, unfortunately, I think the Cube is going to be considered a relative failure when compared to their other consoles (the Virtual Boy not withstanding!). This will be a great shame because it's a good system with a lot going for it. But, like any system, a lack of decent games will always come back to haunt it. It has good games like Metroid Prime, Zelda WW, Star Fox Adventures, etc. but where is the originality? I should probably start a new thread for this rant... it just saddens me that Nintendo have gone downhill cuz I have always loved them (the only consoles I own right now are a Cube and SNES) but they have been a bit lost ever since Sony stole their crown. Oh well.

Don't count the big N's chickens before they hatch. There are alot of great titles up and coming for the system, and I am sure with Nintendo's reputation that we will be in for some nice surprises for the system.

I'm not writing Nintendo off completely, but I think the Gamecube won't ever be hugely successful now. As I say, where is the originality? Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Zelda WW, Star Fox Adventures, F-Zero, Mario Kart DD, Wave Race... come on, Nintendo, we've all been there before. Many times in some instances. Great games...just not very original. At least Pikmin is pretty unique, I guess.

I wouldn't throw Metroid Prime in with that lis just because its very different then the previous incarnations. You do have a point with all of the rehases but even though these games are very similar to previous ones I still enjoyed playing them. I think there are two different types of sequals. The first being horrible games just made in hopes of cashing in on a name. And the second being good games, while similiar in ideas, still able to hold their own. And the second is how I see most Nintendo sequals. And its not as if there aren't any other games that are or look good. Eternal Darkness, Super Monkey Ball 1 &2, Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike, Viewtiful Joe, Final Fantasy: CC, Tales of Symphonia and more. There's plenty of games that I am interested in...more so then PS2 and Xbox.

I really don't consider these sequels "rehashes" in any way. All of these are major Nintendo franchises, and I know one thing is for sure, and that is when you see a new Metroid, Zelda, Mario and so on it will be a great game to play. They will not jeopardize their franchises to crap sequels, and this is a great thing! I look forward to them all....as I have from the point the original NES titles were released.

Hehe, I bought the 'Cube a little over a month ago, but thanks for the well wishes! Bought a PSOne three weeks later, also.
Two systems in the past two months. Have to watch my spending. x_x

Yes, That is what I was trying to say...only it made much more sense the way you said it.

I'm not saying that the Gamecube sequels aren't good games (except Mario Sunshine, but that's just a matter of opinion). I am saying that they are not original. Someone earlier said that Metroid Prime is original. Why? Because it's 3D? Sorry, but as great a game as it is, being 3D doesn't make it original. In fact, it was a bit of a no brainer that the next Metroid game would be 3D. Anyway, Nintendo just doesn't seem to have the excellent creative output that they once had. Original characters in original games, where have they all gone?
