What is this thing? An official award? A gag award? "Employee of the Month" award? A contest award?
Looks pretty big and heavy, whatever it is. :)

Not an employee of the month. Nintendo doesn't do that (or at least I hope not!). I'd say with 95% certainty that it is one of the many awards that Nintendo sends to retailers who excel in certain areas (Most floor space w/nintendo products, most interesting display, highest sales, etc).

Or possibly to a developer for unit sales on a title they developed.

I have one that looks very much like it but its solid black granite or marble or some other hard rock-like substance. The one I have is for "Super Salesman" and was given to a Nintendo employee. I'm curious to find out more on this one and who it was given to.
