I've got 3 modified Gameboy Advance systems up for grabs. These have all been modified to use a Gameboy Advance SP backlit screen (otherwise known as the "101"). Each unit comes in an anti-static bag. They are then cased in a pair of Universal Game Cases that have been modified to fit the purpose. The bonus is that the case not only serves as packaging, but is a great way to store the unit or take on the go, since there's extra room inside that could easily store a few of your favorite games. Each case also comes with a silica packet so that you can store your GBA in its case feel secure knowing that it's protected from moisture. A fresh model sticker and unique serial number have been applied to the back of each. I've dubbed this product the "Gambeoy Advance Light +". Anywho, here they are!

1) Orange SOLD!
2) Black SOLD!
3) Clear Red SOLD!

Just wanted to say nice work on these! They look outstanding, especially that translucent red one.

I will definitely consider picking one of these up eventually to round out the GBA collection, just trying to budget for the holidays now.

Thanks guys!

The red one sold on another forum in about 15 minutes, and based on response from everyone else, that seems to be the top pick. I'll make sure to make more of the red available ASAP :)

These are pretty cool. Are the screens as bright and brilliant as the GBA SP2's?

Slightly dimmer.

Brighter setting on both

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k99/wiggyx/Wiggy%20Design/DSC02998.jpg

Low setting

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k99/wiggyx/Wiggy%20Design/DSC02996.jpg

Basically, the low setting on the SP is as bright as the high setting on the normal GBA. This can be tweaked slightly via a potentiometer on the GBA, but I wouldn't screw with it too much. In my experience, at plenty bright enough for most any situation except for direct sunlight. It is still playable in direct sunlight, its just not as bright as the SP 101.

See first post for prices and whatnot :)

I'd bite on the red one for $125, maybe even for $150. I think I'll pass on the black for now though and wait to see if you get more red.

EDIT: I just noticed that's a custom paint job, so it'll be interesting to see the price if you do more of those.

Bidding on a whole mess o' Glacier GBAs right now for that very purpose. Also gonna be doing a translucent blue whenever I get time this week. Hopefully I'll have a handful of red ones to sell pretty soon :evil laugh:

How hard is it to put a kit in? Do the kits come with instructions?

Wow! I am very impressed with those GBA's! Love the sticker on the back "Made in Japan, Modified in the USA"-Like Nintendo themselves gave the go-ahead.

It requires that the shell be modified fairly extensively on the inside to accommodate the screen and the switch, a handful of rather small solder points, and some careful nudging, folding, and a little hot melt glue. If you're comfortable with a Dremel, hobby knife, and soldering iron, then it shouldn't be too tricky.

I'm putting the final touched on the manual. I went sorta WAY in depth, as if I were trying to instruct my mother to perform the mod :P So you can bank on it covering EVERYTHING that you'll need to know and then some :)

Thanks! I'm happy yo see that someone noticed that little addition to the label :D

Wow, very nice product! Somehow I missed seeing this when it was first posted. I'd be very interested if GBA was something I ever got into much. Anyway, just had to say what a nice looking package this is.

I will take the orange one. Are you going to make more? I would be interested in purchasing more than one.

I asked if he could front light my wonderswan crystal. Hopefully he can because its hard to play it in bed and lean over under my lamp.

I wonder if he could color it too maybe a satin metallic red color.

That poor orange unit sat here forever, then all of a sudden 4 people asked about it with 24 hours @_@

Anyway, it's off to France. I will be making these for as long as people want them :) I have about 20 used GBAs coming in the next few weeks. Mostly glacier (my fav, since they work well for the translucent colors I make), and a few white, indigo, and black. I can get more orange if you'd like. They aren't cheap since they weren't available in the US, but I'm sure Hit-Japan has enough that I can buy 4 or 5 and make it affordable for both you and myself :)

Could you do this to a NGPC?

Sure can! I've done at least 5 or 6 so far including at least one for a fellow here on DP.

The satin "Inferno Red" (it's a Chrysler color, VERY nice in the sunlight) is tough to really get a feel for in the pic, but it's really quite nice IMO.

Very tough to get a feel for the color in pics, but it has some subtle gold metallic in it that is quite sublime.

See above.

Depends on a few things.

• Which console?
• Brightness switch?
• Power LED swap?
• Custom paint?
• Custom buttons? (yes, I make custom buttons now too!)

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k99/wiggyx/51A8CF13-56BC-4043-99A3-338E06C58D44-977-0000007E70197C7C.jpg

If you just want something basic, then usually about 45-55 shipped depending on which portable. The Swan is the least difficult of the bunch, and the NGP is a royal pain in the arse to get it to close neatly. It takes a lot of VERY careful cutting to make it perfect, and the GBA (AGB-001) is somewhere in the middle, difficulty-wise.

I can also do a nice case for them and custom "Rose Colored Gaming" serial and model number stickers too if you want it to really stand out (see pics in 1st post). 10 bucks extra for that. Plus, it's a hard plastic case. Great for storage on a shelf to show off ;)

That NGPC looks fantastic. I would just want a front light with a power switch to turn it off/on.

I just got a new NGPC. Will a transparent one work with the light?

wiggyx
01-24-2013, 11:40 AM
Thank you!

On/Off is no prob.

The only issues with clear are:

a) A lot of light is going to flood the whole unit. I think I know a trick that will help keep that from happening, at least on an obnoxious level, but it won't be absolutely perfect.

b) You're gonna see some of my work inside, though I do keep it very tidy. The NGP case has to be modded more than any other case, and normally the little nicks and scuffs inside won't matter because you wouldn't ever see them. With a little sandpaper and a scuff pad I'm sure I can get things looking 99% original in there, but it will take a little extra love, just don't know exactly how much love.

Good point. Maybe I'll just get you to mod my non clear one. The only downer with that is that it doesn't have a battery cover so ill need to track one down somewhere.

I'll check eBay, maybe ill just pick another one and have it shipped direct to you! :)

What's the price for the light and installation?

edit: I saw in your other thread that you can do adjustable brightness, not just on/off. Is that worth it? Does it use a dial or switch?

wiggyx
01-25-2013, 01:18 AM
I can do on-off, or dual brightness. I generally don't do the dimmer switch thing since LEDs don't really get along with that sort of thing too well without a controller of some sort.

Just let me know. I can get that done for ya whenever :)
