Kinda thinking about getting this for my son and me to learn about the solar system together. Anyone played (used) this and willing to give me a recommendation to either buy or pass on this?

Thanks!

I downloaded it a year or two ago. The user interface takes a little getting used to, but the app is informative and relaxing. Considering it only cost several dollars, I recommend it.

http://www.stellarium.org/ I have it on my ubuntu 12.04 laptop. It's free and a nice little diversion from time to time. Check it out.

I went ahead and downloaded My Planetarium and my son digs it so I'm happy. It's a shame there isn't narration rather than just text for the app as some good old fashioned oral story telling would have been great for the mythology section, but for $5 it's solid enough. With any luck there are constellations of Hudson Soft characters and its mascot to unlock. A Master Higgins (Takahashi Meijin) constellation would be worth the price of admission by itself.

EDIT:

Yay indeed. My son is enraptured with this app. Now, I'll have to consider the My Aquarium series on the Wii next.
