I may have made this topic in the past but I don't remember. But basically now I'm getting an action replay for my Saturn and could use some game choices.

In order to offer relevant advice, what kinds of games do you enjoy? Or what do you want to avoid?

Fighting, sidescrolling platforming basically anything that can be played with no knowledge of Japanese. I already have X Men vs Street Fighter ordered

All SNK fighting games because theyre cool, some even comes with a ram cart, but i dont know if you can use that with the action replay. Princess Crown can be figured out without knowing japanese i heard, thats a cool side scrolling action almost rpg game. Castlevania Symphony of the Night for Saturn by the way allows you to play as Maria. Radiant Silvergun is expensive, but if you really want a great collection of Saturn games its a crown jewel. (Also Id say the saturn is an essential console if you like shooters, heres a list of good ones http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/saturn/sega-saturn-shmups-2d-shooters) Guardian Heroes is supposed ot be great, but is expensive too. Metal SLug is on the Saturn in Japan, and so are Street Fighter games.

^^^ The Action Replay works as a 4meg RAM cart as well ;)

X-men vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Street Fighter
Street Fighter Zero 3
Pocket Fighter
Vampire Savior
Cyberbots
Princess Crown
Battle Garegga
Gradius Collection
Salamander Collection
Radiant Silvergun (everyone knows this one by now)
Parodious (there are many)
Dragon Force 2
Princess Crown
Castlevania (has an extra area that the PS1 version doesn't)
Dungeons and Dragons

That's all that pops into my head at the moment, but there are TONS of awesome JP only titles.

Soooooooooo many great shmups for the Saturn. It's worth owning a JP unit for that reason alone :D

awesome :)

And is that area on the right of the clock that goes up to where all the madusa heads are in the gear rooms before you get to the castle keep? Ive always wondered whats in that areas ince on the map they show you can access that, but I havent done it yet.

The posts above covered much of the really good games. I would also recommend:
Metal Slug, another amazing port, arcade-perfect
Thunder Force V, an incredible shmup, with outstanding music
Deep Fear, an excellent Resident Evil clone set underwater
Soukyugurentai, another great shmup

All of these are import-friendly, nearly all text is in English.
I love the Sega Saturn, once you start importing, you can discover a ton of amazing games.
By far my favorite console of all-time.

Figured it was better to bump an existing topic than start a new one for this.

Recently (as in yesterday), I got Grandia II for the Dreamcast, and this morning, I played it. I'm enjoying it immensely!

Now, a local game store has the Japanese Saturn version of the original Grandia, but... the case is missing some of its inserts, and I think its missing the manual too. The guy wants I think $20 for it.

Is it worth buying Grandia One for that price, or should I hold out for a more complete copy?

Grandia is really awesome, Id wait for a complete copy, but Im not sure how rare it is. It reminds me so much of Castle In The Sky. If youre just getting it to collect, wait for a complete copy but if you know Japanese and can play it, I say get it.

Oh and I was just playing Waku Waku 7, a fighting game for the NEO GEO, it was only ported to the Saturn in Japan, so GET THAT! Its so cool , tons of parody characters, cool graphics, funny atmosphere.

Not really waku waku 7 had a JP PS2 port and is closer to the neo-geo original.

Blerg. You know, I can't recall exactly, so I'll have to differ to the webernetz since it'll take too much work to drag my Saturn out and check.

If you understand japanese, then the saturn version is the best available. I've heard it just looks better. Something to do with being developed for the saturn and then being ported over to the playstation i assume.

Oh ok, cool, but he should still get it any way he can.

Also this game, its worth it just for the exclusive guy. :D Gotta show it instead of say it.
