I'm curious if anyone has ever come to a conclusion on where this label variation comes from. I'm talking about the one that looks exactly like the Megadrive version, but still keeps the Sega Genesis logo.

I had found a loose copy years ago, but today, totally by chance, I managed to find a complete copy. It's funny because at the top of the box it has the Genesis logo, but at the bottom of the box it says "for use with the Mega Drive". Also, the manual is stapled differntly, like other Mega Drive manuals.

From my own experience of hunting Genesis games in the wild, I'd probably call this an R6 at the least. It shoud probably be noted somewhere in the guide. I remember hearing that this was just a Canadian version, which could explain why I haven't seen many. If thats true though, than shouldn't this show up on eBay more frequently?

8 or 9 years ago I saw a bunch of what might have been this version of Sonic at at KB Toys outlet in Kittery, Maine. I didn't go in to look at them, but I remember the case being different from my copy of Sonic, and it wasn't just a "Not for Resale" thing slapped on it. It was a much more plain case with the text being like the one side image there (the blue "Sonic" and white "the Hedgehog"). Not positive that it was the same thing, but it certainly wasn't the regular variations that we've seen everywhere.

It sounds to me like you're talking about the same game. Also, when I've heard people talk about seeing this, they always mention a KB Outlet. This is the first time I've heard about someone seeing it in the US back then though.

Also, it completely slipped my mind in my original post, but one of my cartridges has a "not for resale" sticker, with what looks like not for resale in French right underneath. This confuses me even more though, because I certainly don't rememeber any pack-in looking like this.

Is it possible for this to be a KB exclusive, possibly only released in Canada and the Northern states? That just seems too strange.

If it's in French, I'm 99% sure it's Canadian.

I live in Canada and I got one of these as a pack-in with my Genesis.
The instruction manual and the text on the back is in 8 different languages.
At the time that I got this, I really noticed the packaging because all of the copies I saw in the store had the "traditional" box art. I'm not sure of the KB connection as we don't have them here.

I wandered across a copy of this variation long ago at GameStop and wondered where it came from. More info would be apreciated and I do think this should have a separate listing in the rarity list.
