A local flea market had the PC version of Final Fantasy VII, in the cardboard sleeve with all four CDs (one of them is an install disc). It was just the sleeve and the discs. They looked in good condition. They wanted $15 for it.
I already have FF7 on Playstation, and it's not one of my favorites. But I'm wondering if this would make good trade bait.
Worth it or no?

Someone on Amazon wrote the music was horrible on it. I havent heard it though, but the music is a big deal to how memorable it is.

I havent heard it though, but the music is a big deal to how memorable it is.There were some talk about the technical details of getting the game running in that thread about the 2012 downloadable version (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?164598-Final-Fantasy-VII-%28PC-2012%29). It depends on what sort of MIDI device you're using.
Anyway, now that said 2012 downloadable version is available, I doubt the original release is quite as valuable as it once was. The obvious way to check is with a completed items search on eBay, but I kind of doubt you'd get anything more than $15, especially without the box. (The original PC release had a really weird box, and the subsequent budget release was uncommon in itself.)

In that condition it's worth about $10-$20, it would need to be complete to be worth more than that.

The PC version is definitely worth getting as long as you get a patch for it, as it has problems running in anything beyond Windows 98. Certain parts crash with the unpatched EXE in modern Windows versions, such as the Chocobo race or the submarine mission.

I can't tell you one way or the other if it will have trade value to a Final Fantasy collector, but I will tell you that one of the reasons I personally like getting older PC games is that nobody really collects them, so you can often get great games for dirt cheap.
I personally couldn't see myself getting Final Fantasy VII for PC unless it was an impulse buy. I definitely wouldn't trade anything of value for it.
Just my $0.02

Unfortunately the 2012 release is going to cut the value down, I see a few listings on eBay in the 60-100 range, but that's complete in box. You can check at the qhimm forums to see if it's a legit copy but you're not going to get much of value for it. If your PSX copy is complete you have a much better bargaining chip already.
As/for the person talking about the music: unmodified the 1998 PC version uses MIDI, either Yamaha XM, SoundBlaster AWE32 soundfonts, or General MIDI. Neither is comparable to the PSX soundtrack, but this was remedied a few years ago with FF7Music, a program by FiceDula that allows you to use the original PSF files from the playstation version for music. Even with the best soundfonts you will, for example, not have the vocals for One Winged Angel and everything will sound a bit 'off' compared to the PSX version.
The 2012 version also comes with a butchered soundtrack. They used general midi as a source for ogg vorbis audio, and you lose the ability to use custom soundfonts or a better synthesizer to improve the audio quality. FF7Music (and most of the other mods for the 1998 PC release) do not work for the 2012 re-release, mostly due to changes made for SecuROM complicating patching or hooking into the executable. There is a replacement soundtrack available from the original PSX music, and it's actually easier to setup than FF7Music, but it boggles my mind that out of the box it does not sound right.
I've made a video comparing a few tracks from both soundtracks to demonstrate:

I know this is more information than the thread needs but I figure people searching the forums for info will find this thread first anyway.
*EDIT -- I know all of this becuase I never had a playstation, the PC version was all I had and I play through it about once a year every year. I may or may not have ran over my Disc 2 with my computer chair so the downloadable re-release was a godsend for me.
