Ok, so this may sound dumb...but I'm sure I'm not alone. Anyone suffer from great classic game finds in their dreams only to wake up and want to curl up into a ball and sob the rest of the day? I have dreams with an odd frequency that involve epic finds at dirt cheap prices..only to wake up and be like...well..this sucks. Last night for instance I was dreaming I was in a flea market and a guy had a special edition model 1 Sega Saturn I never seen before and he was willing to let it go for $30 bucks....and a few weeks earlier, while at a restaurant of a family friend I went peeking around the basement only to be warned of the mess as they uncovered a bunch of boxes and been going through them....needless to say littered on the floor I found a new in box blue resident evil code veronica stars console which the owner gave to me. Anyone else suffer from these horrible teases?

Once I was at a flea market in my dream and found Super Metroid for original Game Boy complete in box! It would be a better find if that game actually existed.

Oce I was in a store that had shelves of mint, complete, boxed, consoles. I dragged around 2 shopping carts, filled them up with stuff to buy, and woke up. :(

I had a similar dream again but this time, the place was gigantic like a costco. There was a shelf of brand new vectrex's @_@ I woke up...:(

Yup, that has happened to me many times. I just find loads of games for dirt cheap at basically every table at a flea market. Most of the time they are games that don't exist in real life, but its usually images of giant stacks of them and for some reason in my mind, I know they are worth money (in the dream).

Just like Genesaturn said about waking up being let down because it didn't actually happen hits the target too. Thats why I've always said nightmares are better because you wake up feeling relieved that it wasnt real, where as good dreams make you wake up feeling let down. Kinda weird way to think about it, but its true.

It's interesting that this isn't altogether uncommon here. I don't think I've ever had such a dream (yet), but now that the seed has been planted, who knows?

I know what you mean Genesaturn. I had one of those dreams just the other night.

I dreamed that I was at Toys R Us and in the back of the store I discovered an isle that I had never come across before. It was filled with old stock back from the early to mid 90's. I immediately started searching for Sega stuff and found a bunch of Sega CD games. Among the games was Rocket Knight Adventures 2 CD. It was a Sega CD exclusive and took place between Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster. Not to mention it was being sold at the bargain price of $2.30.

Just as I was searching for other non-existent classic games my son woke me up.

But yeah. I always have dreams like these. Then I wake up and i'm like all depressed and stuff. :(

When I was younger (early 2000's, not a dream), I was at Toys R Us, and I thought I saw some classic Transformers G1 toys on the shelf. I know now that they were reissues, but back then I was somewhat confused.

I used to have such a dream on a roughly once-a-week basis.

Some of them were odd. Like once I found a game based on Disney's Snow White... except it was a Diablo clone. So yeah, I'm no stranger to dreaming about games which don't exist... it's gotten to a point where I can usually see it and turn the dream Lucid.

Now if one of us ever finds a way to pull objects out of dreams, Nightmare on Elm Street style... I bet it would revolutionize game collecting.

I will share a personal experience I had with game collection in my dreams...

When I was younger, I had NES, and I dream of a NES game that I never had played nor seen before and it was such a realistic dream that I woke up looking for the game. It was Target Renegade, I vividly remembered the dream and later on in life I saw the game and it was like... hey... I had that game before... but I didn't. I periodically collect games quite often depending on my finances, and at one time I was building up my SNES collection and I was actually dreaming quite often of collecting SNES games, and once I wake up.. ya... I was like.. damn...

I remember quite well having a Game Gear collecting dream not too long ago - within the past few years as a matter of fact. It was wonderful! There were so many, many Game Gear games, all at a retail store, all new in their boxes, many which exist in the Western world and some which were only released in Japan, but in my dream all of them were ready-to-play as American releases. It was so fantastic, finding games which I once had complete and now had again but new in the shrink wrap, so many good deals, all the games were only $5 or $10 each, and I had like $150 to work with.

But like all great illusions, it had to end. I woke up, looked around, and realized where I was and that none of what I thought had occurred had actually happened. I hit the bed with the bottom of two clenched fists while yelling, "Damn!"

Funny enough last night I dreamt that I found a whole bunch of Playstation and PS2 games at this random hole-in-the-wall store, which for some reason was like half coffee shop half thrift store. They apparently had just gotten these games in and most of them were in decent condition. There were mostly games or variants that don't exist, such as a longbox Suikoden, several RPGs that looked like they were based on very obscure animes, and one RPG that had a disk for each level of the game, and there was like 20 discs in the case all in slipcovers. Somehow while I'm browsing all these reseller-like people come in from nowhere and start grabbing games, which mysteriously teleported to a random isle in the store which I later found. Amazingly these people took most of the crappy games, although I think they grabbed the Suikoden longbox. :( I woke up before I could make a purchase.

I'm still trying to find that Fleet Farm 1982 Catalog cartridge for the 2600. I know I put it SOMEWHERE.

I've actually had re-occuring dreams involving the used game section at JC Penney. Racks and racks of 2600, intv, whatever. Usually there's a big stack of some odd peripheral or something.

I had another one this morning, of the "game that never existed variety."

In the dream I was in some sort of GameXchange-like store and they had a 3D Legend of Zelda game from the 32-bit era. Except this was one that had been released on all three major consoles of the time, and I wound up getting the Saturn version.

God sometimes I wish dreams could become reality, because just as I woke up, I was playing "Saturn Zelda" and it actually looked like an awesome game.

If it was like Nightmare on Elm Street you could just hold onto something and pull it into the real world when you wake up. That would be great.

You know what, once I get Lucid Dreaming down pat I'm gonna actually try doing that.

It would be nice if Zelda for Saturn became the centerpiece of my collection.

This totally happens with me sometimes. I dream of finding rare NES carts, once which don't even exist!

Ahhhh yes... the Reef Store dream! Anybody remember these discussions from the old RGVC usenet group? I've had plenty of these dreams also. If I had all the strange and wonderful things I've found in my dreams my collection would be twice the size it is now.

I actually tried that in a dream I had when I was 11. Super Mario Bros. 3 had just been released, and I was pining for it something fierce. One night, I had a dream that I had finally found it at a local department store and purchased it immediately. Spent the rest of my dream happily playing it before I started to feel myself waking up. Realizing it was all only a dream, I quickly pulled the cartridge from the NES and held onto it as tight as I could hoping it would still be in my hands when I awoke. Immediately after waking, I pulled the covers down hoping to see Mario 3 under them, but all I saw was my tightly clinched fist desperately holding onto something nonexistent. So sad. :( I knew the movies weren't real, but for as bad as I wanted Mario 3, I figured it was worth a try, you know... just in case...

Just had another games collecting dream last night. Went into a Best Buy and they had bins filled with PS1 longbox, Saturn, and 3DO games all stacked up for sale. The only game I remember seeing in the dream was Alone in the Dark 2 for 3DO (of all games), but they were all still sealed. The only thing is that I think they were all marked $20+. The shear amount that I saw in the dream was pretty staggering.

Oh, definitely. I wouldn't say I get these dreams super often, but I dream of making amazing finds fairly regularly. And like you guys, it's often stuff that doesn't exist, but in my dreams, I'm perfectly accepting of the fact that it exists despite that I had never heard of it before and that makes me think I have all the more an amazing find, getting something that nobody knows about so it must be extremely rare and valuable.

My fiance, on the other hand, dreams of finding tons and tons of Neo Geo games for dirt cheap prices, haha.

I had a dream the other night that I scored a copy of X-Com for the Super NES in some magical thrift store. First time in awhile I've dreamed about a game that doesn't even exist

The other night I had one where I found a bunch of rare Game Boy games for cheap, including the GB version of one of my favorite NES games as a kid, Rockin' Kats in all three variant labels.

Wake up to discover that I don't own any of the games I bought, nor did Rockin' Kats ever have a Game Boy version or have three different collector's labels.
