Ok, I'm thinking about getting a Geo CD. Can't really afford a CDZ, so that's out of the question. Few questions though about the CD....
1. How bad are the loading times? I've heard their terrible.
2. Any differences between the cart and CD game gameplay wise?
3. Are the controllers compatible with AES?
4. Any games only available on the CD system?
5. Would it still be worth getting if I have the AES system?

1. They're pretty bad, but you can probably get used to them.
2. Not gameplay wise.
3. Yes.
4. Samurai Shodown RPG and the King of Fighters '96 Collectors CD....that's all I know.
5. Probably not. Unless you have a really hard time scraping money together for AES games.

Egads, those loading times! Heaven forbid you play a game like Metal Slug or Art of Fighting 3. If you're quick enough, you can actually make two peanut butter n' jelly sandwiches in the time it takes for either of those games to load. In no way am I joking. I've pulled it off before.

Get a CDZ or AES
2. Any differences between the cart and CD game gameplay wise?
Only the cool animated loading screens.
3. Are the controllers compatible with AES?
yes
4. Any games only available on the CD system?
yes
5. Would it still be worth getting if I have the AES system?
If it is CDZ then it is the only Neo Geo with native S-Video support.. very very cool.

1. The load times are worst for fighters. The newer the fighter, the worse the load time. Shooters and puzzlers aren't nearly as bad, but you're still talking 5-10 seconds...which seems like a LONG time!
2. Nope
3. Yep
4. Yeah, besides the ones listed, Iron Clad is a really rare CD only shmup for the NGCD...runs about $200 a copy! *sniff*
5. No chance in hell.

I picked up an Neo Geo CD as I couldn't afford an AES and the games were a lot cheaper. However, I kept it for about two months before trading up for an AES system. I just couldn't put up with those loading times. Something like Blue's Journey or Viewpoint weren't too bad but I didn't play a fighting game for more than half an hour due to the loading putting me off.

My friend swears that he was able to read a chapter of The Hunchback of Notre Dame waiting for a match to load up on one of his neo cd fighters.
