New to the import scene...got some questions

I am interested in picking up multiple Nintendo Jap. systems some time hopefully soon, but I've never imported before. So here's a couple questions:

1. Whats a reasonable price for most import NES, SNES, and N64 games and systems?

2. What do I need for these systems to be able to work on my american tv?

#1 Can't help you there, sorry.

#2 You don't need anything for them to work on your TV. Japan is NTSC just like us, now PAL is another story.

I thought I heard you needed an adapter for something...if not for the tv, do you need one for the power? Something about voltage maybe. If not that would be great.

That's what I thought at first too, but you don't need it. A step up convertor is what you're thinking of. The power for the Japanese systems is 100 while our's is 110. That small difference should not matter as most are +/- anyway. I have used my systems for years without a problem. If you are worried about it just head to Radio Shack and get one.

*MOST* games are fairly priced, but it all varies to be honset. There are of course, rare games that go into the hundreds, but there' a lot of good games you should be able to nab off of Ebay for $10-$20.

Personally I'd say skip picking up an import system of any of those three. The SNES and N64 are VERY easy to make import friendly (all we're talking is snap off a couple of tabs and you're golden) and NES convertors aren't that hard to come by (check the really old NES games such as Gyromite, I think there's another thread here about this very thing.)

Prices for games are going to vary for imports just like they will for non-imports. I've picked up imports dirt cheap (mostly games that came out over here and are essentially the same thing) but any desirable game that didn't make it out over here or was changed a lot in the trip over is going to cost more. There really isn't a set rule but expect to pay a bit of a premium for the good stuff by the nature of it being a bit harder to find over here.

1. Depends on the games. For the average common Famicom game, figure $1 to $4 per cart. Rare stuff goes up proportionally to rarity and demand of course. For SFC, figure on cart only starting at $4 to $5 for commons and moving up into the $100+ range for some of the rares. For N64, I'm really not sure. Systems for both Fami and SFC are fairly inexpensive ($10-20 range, unless you want weird versions or an AV Famicom).

2. You shouldn't need anything. They're NTSC, so they'll work fine on US TVs.

Only import I got is Dragon Quest IV. Would love to try imports if wasn't so much to get one and the converters.
