Herein is the continuation of a saga that started in the Finds thread. I found a CECHG01 fat PS3 at Goodwill last week. Took it home, hooked it up, and it works fine aside from not pulling in any discs. So I tear into it, realign the mechanism (after getting it to make the machine-gun noise on a reset), and while I was in there I noticed that the optical sensor is completely missing. Got one of those from ebay, installed it today. Now it gladly accepts and ejects a disc. Only problem is it doesn't seem to do anyting other than light the blue LED. Is that a laser or some other problem? And whatever it is, trusted part seller recommendations and other info are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The 405NM laser (the blue one) tends to blow on these units. The unfortunate thing is that without it the system cant read anything, the PS3 uses the blue one to check for the presence and type of disc. It could be the drive board or one of the motors but the laser is far more likely.

I am too stuck between the same problem. As the technology advances the laser should've been more thick so that they can read more data accumulated on discs. 405NM blows for sure. @_@

OK, so, suggestions for what to try next? I bought a laser/deck combo from an ebay seller with high feedback numbers and a warranty. A little more expensive, but 4 screws for the deck seemed easier than major surgery to do just the laser. Did the swap, fairly confident that I hooked everything up properly because it will pull in and eject a disc, and I can see that the new laser moved around on the slides, but... nothing. Stupid thing doesn't seem to care once there's a disc in it.

maybe the blue ray board is fried or not the one for that console so looks like it may need to be remarried?

replaced the laser, replaced the bent "L" cable going from the drive board to the "motherboard." still doesn't care when you insert a disc. :bawling:

yeah, it's at 4.31 and goes black screen when you try to go to the store, which is apparently another symptom of the drive board needing remarried. F'n GREAT. *sigh*
