I was shutout by the computer opponent playing SNES Play Action Football. The final score was 0-95 or thereabouts. There was about 9 interceptions which the computer mainly returned for touchdowns since the computer guy could run way faster than my guys. If I accelerated with the A button, it would last only a few seconds, then my guy would slow down to a crawl. The computer defender would most always be in just the right spot for an interception even if I tried to place my receiver in better position while viewing the radar. My final rushing yards was something like minus 30 since it's been a long time since I last played this game and my final passing yards was zero.
In the pregame options, I selected beginner mode, but later read in the manual that it's not an option for season play. After that game, I selected beginner mode for a single game and selected Houston as my team since Houston had a strong passing/receiving game along with good defense, and either the Colts or Steelers for an opponent. My rushing yards were much better, but even when I focus on one or two passing plays, I still can't make sense of how to get the ball into my receivers' hands without being intercepted or blocked by defensive linemen. I can usually manage to win versus NES Play Action Football, and Tecmo Bowl and Madden are almost automatic wins versus the computer.
Has anyone figured out the passing game for SNES Play Action (other than always running the ball which would be boring)? I know you have to be careful choosing between the Y (long pass) and B (short pass) buttons, since the Y often leads to overthrown balls and the B often leads to pickoffs by middle linebackers. I viewed a youtube video of a SNES play action super bowl versus the computer, and it's apparently possible to defeat it.
