View Full Version : What imports did you get dirt cheap?

Inspired (ok stolen) from PDF's post idea, what imports have you found that were just insane deals, either cause no one else knew what they were or everyone missed em or something?

My BEST import scores are:

Eliminate Down (Mega Drive) - Saw it on eBay...it was going for like $10 and only 2 bids, with a day left. I knew everyone was waiting till the last second, and so I emailed the seller and asked him if he'd sell it outright for $35 and I'd pay him immediately via Paypal. To my astonishment, he AGREED, and pulled the auction and sold me the game! It was boxed, no manual, but for $35, Eliminate Down can't be passed up. I figure even sans manual it's worth around $100 easy :)

Tenchi Wo Kurau 2 (Saturn) - Some guy had one listed on one of the charming usenet forums that I frequent. He had a price on it of....$25! I about choked when I saw it and scrambled to email him as fast as possible. Turns out I was the first one to email him and he got flooded with like 7 emails to buy it right after me! Yay! So I ended up getting Tenchi Wo Kurau 2 for $25..shipped! I'd been worried I couldn't afford the game at the $60 it goes for, so I was VERY happy.

Sin & Punishment (N64) - Was hunting for an S&P and just couldn't find one. Once again, good old usenet, and some guy had S&P for $30 shipped. Couldn't resist and I bought it right away, and it turns out it's brand spanking new. Looks like it's never been touched! All the inserts still there, perfect everything. Quite the deal!

I won this recently and I think it's an excellent puzzler! I had placed a $30 max bid on it, but the auction never even broke $8!

I got Sin & Punishment (N64) and Robopon 64 (N64) in a package deal on eBay for a little over $40.00 shipped. Both were complete and mint.

I also got Salamander Deluxe Pack (Saturn, complete) for $18.00 on eBay after the seller didn't put the name of the game in the auction title.

Turbo Duo:
Spriggan and Ys Iv both for about $8 each - mint condition.
Kaze Kiri a while back for about $35 (ain't that hot, but not a bad deal).

I've gotten a few sets that were REALLY cheap before. Shelled out about $250 and got about $1000 worth of games.

Torneko no Daibouken: Fushigi no Dungeon (Chun Soft)

dunno but almost all my imports were bought at avg. retail cost (ie. $35 for Radiant Silvergun, as well as all other SS Jap titles), $30-$35 for all my Famicom games (like SMB 2), etc. Why? Because if I didn't buy them in Japan (where I used to go yearly), then I'd buy em at home where due to our location, we had a regular supply of U.S. AND Jap games for sale at almost any store.. it made it real confusing for a lot of the average joe blow consumers O_O

I bought several, like Radiant Silvergun and Akumajuo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo at retail prices - but my copy of Alien Soldier I got for $40, converter included! The guy that sold it to me emailed me after seeing that I was looking for it on the OPCFG, and he agreed to sell it for $40. He was also going to sell me Panorama Cotton for $40, but after I got AS I went through a dry spell, cash wise, and by the time I was able to get back to him, his email address no longer worked. :(

I was trading with a guy in Japan for a variety of Saturn games. One of them was Race Drivin', which had originally sold for about seven bucks. Unfortunately, it wasn't even worth that much... :P

I found a couple of gems this year for relatively cheap:

Samurai Shodown 2 for the NGPC (Jp, clamshell) for $10. That was a great find, considering finding the snapcases are becoming harder and harder.

Ikaruga (DC) used for about 15 or 20 bucks at a flea market in NJ not too long after it came out.

Haha! Best score ever! That Taromaru in there just completely tips the scales. Nice! How complete was it? Obi or not, that's an incredible steal.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever scored any "highway robbery" level steals. Just slightly better than current market value. =(

I picked up Cotton for PS1 for 10 bucks at a local import shop.

I've also gotten stuff for decent prices in Japan. 130 bucks for a complete boxed PC Engine Duo-R, 40 bucks for Saturn Dodonpachi, Sin & Punishment for 20 bucks, etc.

I also got Border Down LE back when it first came out for like the 70 bucks it was going for...now it's ridiculously priced, so I call that a good deal.

I bought a lot of 3do import games on Ebay once. The listing was a little sketchy and didn't have a picture, but the seller's feedback was good. All it said was "300 3do Japanese games" and so I bid and won at around $200 I believe. The seller ended up sending me around 500 3do import games, most NIB sealed. It also included a full set of developer's discs and lots of promo and CD-rs with betas (they were all released games but on official 3do media). After doing a little research, I found out this was the complete library from Panasonic Media in San Francisco that had been sold at a liquidation auction. I guess they had a couple copies of each game that had been released in Japan for reference. Best Ebay score I ever had.

I think most of the imports (and games in general) I buy are for good deals, otherwise I wouldn't be buying them.

I'm probably most proud of the fact that I got Dracula X: Rondo of Blood essentially for free. I got two copies for about $70 a piece on two separate occasions about 6 months to a year apart. Definitely good deals in their own right, but when I got the second, I sold one on eBay for $150, and, boom, free, super valuable, and VERY fun game. :D

My boyfriend did great with my PC Engine Duo-RX. We have a friend with Japan Yahoo connections, so my boyfriend bought a lot as a Christmas present for me. Not only was it a good deal, but he also didn't have to pay much in terms of fees and shipping (since it was shipped in a box with a whole bunch of other stuff for our friend). So, anyway, he got me a perfectly working Duo-RX with some accessories and a small assortment of great games (lots of Wonder Boy) and a second Duo-RX that needs repair but should pull in some cash when we get it fixed up all for around $120.

And while it's not a big value game, I think it's kinda funny that I got Romancing Saga 3 for the opening bid of 99 cents and just a couple dollars on shipping because it was a US seller. For a game that's actually good, that's not bad at all. :P I usually pay more than that on no-name imports.

Just got back from a local garage sale and got...

Super Smash Bros. - $5
Mario Kart 64 - $5
Mario Party - $5

2 1st Party N64 Controllers - $6

Pokemon Yellow? - $3

Overall I'm super pumped... I'm gonna have to buy an GameBit or something though so I can take out that plastic piece in my N64... :[

BTW, anyone know how to make Japanese Game Boy games work in an American GBC? :P

I can think of a recent purchase that was good to me.

Last month i was looking for the shooter,Sylphia for the pce.

As it turns out a member at pcenginefx.com had one to sell for $85.00

Now normaly this game reach's $150.00+ on ebay.

The only down side to this copy was the manual and it had some, damage and was the reason for the cut in it's price.

Still when i talk to the member in chat room there i jump at the chance to get it.

Now that i have it i'm glad i finally got,Sylphia given it's a obscure game for the pce plus it is by compile.

Hmm...I think recently (within the last 4 months) on Ebay, I picked up a used copy of Gungriffon off a Japanese seller for a whopping $2.99.

Ebay is great for picking up cheap Saturn imports, if you don't mind them being mostly filler titles. There are sellers that have BIN prices for $5 or less. It's a good way to play catch up....and the amount of games you can pick up at one time can justify the price of shipping (if you ship via EMS of course).

Nice deal! SUPERB game.

Whenever, I buy anything on eBay, especially form overseas, I always check out what else the seller is selling and a couple times I've picked up some games (usually Saturn) for like a dollar or two each and little or no extra shipping. I think Damaramu's "filler titles" is a bit kind for these games most of the time, though. Shovelware would be more acurate even if they are imports (ooh "otaku shovelware!"). I think I've still got copies of Gegege no Kitaro and Destruction Derby (ooh!) lying around even tough I don't even have a Saturn anymore just because no one would ever take them from me.
