Just a random question... Out of all the Atari 2600 games you've played, which one is your favorite?

I'm going to guess no... :)
My fave would probably be Demon Attack. I've played that game A LOT!

The most fun I've ever had with a 2600 is 4-player Warlords. I also really like Combat.

Really hard to pick one, but I always go back to Demon Attack. That's probably my favorite because I love the hypnotic motion of the demons, and it isn't too hard or too easy.

Yars' Revenge is definitely my favorite 2600 game.
When I got my 7800 a few years back, that was the first game I made sure I got for it.

Gotta be Circus Atari. My favorite paddle game, yes even more than Warlords. Warlords is great with 2,3 or 4 people but by yourself against the computers AI its really not that great IMO.

Hmm so many fun simple games on the 2600, if I had to pick, Maze Craze, simple but fun especially at 3AM when your tired and playing with friends.

If I had to pick one, Seaquest by Activision would be my favorite.
There are soooo many honorable mentions, though:
Missile Command
Moon Patrol
Frogger
Yars' Revenge
H.E.R.O.
Pitfall!
Berzerk
Jungle Hunt
and just recently I picked up Zaxxon which is hella fun.

Ding Ding Ding!
We got a winner!
Maze Craze followed by Indy 500, then Slot Racers. Fall Down and Warring Worms 2 are also in the top 5.

I have not played every 2600 game, which makes this difficult because every now and then I try a new game and wonder why it took so long to discover. Two games I own and really enjoy:
Jungle Hunt & Fast Food
Jungle Hunt has a longer play time, very fluid animation with solid game play and a fun maze whereas Fast Food is a quirky quick fix. Worm War I, Fire Fighter, and Maze Craze are a few other favorites of mine.
Indy 500 was really good. Also liked Air Sea Battle, despite how pedestrian it is.

Hell yes. Enduro is mine too. Still has to be the fastest most insane racing game ever made. And the environmental effects and the sound of your car is cool too.

It's a tough one, but I'd have to say Adventure with Starpath's Escape From The MindMaster getting barely edged out. At least Adventure doesn't require hooking up an audio cassette player or MP3 player.

It has to be Gravitar, I can't think of another 2600 game that offers comparable freedom and challenge. While some of the level designs may be overly cramped and near impossible to navigate, death-defying near misses are a lot of fun.

Yo, sloan! I just picked up Enduro at a coffee shop that has a smattering of video games for sale from the 2600 to the current era. I must say that the game is pretty darn awesome to play, and I love the changing background and effect that night has on visibility. Thanks for giving a shout out to the game. Your thumbs up plus a recommended Youtube video singing the praises of Enduro were too much for me not to spend an extra $3 after getting my evening large hazelnut fix on.

Glad to hear it, and the best investment in 2600 gaming you could make. Changing weather patterns (fog, snow) make the game great as well.

If people like the variable weather/light conditions in Enduro, be sure to check out Robot Tank from Activision.
It's amazing what was accomplished with this console that was meant to recreate things like Pong, Breakout, and Tank.

Man, you are missing out. The VCS shines with two players. In fact, it may be the best system to have two player matches on.....so many great two player games! You really need to find someone to play with and get a game going of Maze Craze, Indy 500, Slot Racers, and many many many others. Such a GREAT time.

Yar's Revenge is the best game on the 2600 imo. There were certain types of effects (audio and visual) that the 2600 did well and Yar's uses every one of them perfectly. There were also certain gameplay elements that the 2600 handled best, and Yar's makes the most of those too. It is truly a 2600 game through and through and I love it.

Pitfall! is probably my favorite, but Video Olympics, Warlords, Mario Bros., and Double Dragon are all up there. The last four really shine in multiplayer.

Honestly, I grew up playing E.T and Pac-Man on the Atari 2600 as a child and loved those games as a kid, so they actually do hold a dear place in my heart and I'll always remember them as being fun games despite the general opinion of them. I actually still play them from time to time to this day and still somewhat enjoy them. But I'm a huge fan of Cosmic Arc, Defender, Ice Hockey, Dragon Fire, and Atlantis. So any one of them could take the prize, not sure which one exactly.

This squarely backs my theory that Pac Man was not widely despised for its 'poor graphics' or different board layout when it released. I, too, remember enjoying Pac Man even though it was nowhere near the arcade version in look or feel.

Some disappointment, sure, but at the end of the day it was a maze game that had the basic elements of Pac Man and was reasonably fun. I actually ding it more for the sticky controls than the graphics.
Enduro is one of my favorite racers of all time - definitely in my 2600 top 10. Probably top 5.

I didn't despise Pac-Man on the 2600 as a kid, either. I understood and accepted that 2600 arcade were watered down arcade ports. Pac-Man's graphics were just par for the course as far as the 2600 went as far as I was concerned, but I did greatly prefer the much more arcade accurate version on the Commodore 64 that my cousin copied on a floppy for me a year or so later. This more than anything else lowered my estimation of the port as a kid.

Ill will towards games wasn't transmitted with the same fluidity then as it is today, I think it's safe to say. People may have been more naive and more likely to be manipulated into a positive first impression by the dubious claims made on video game packaging and in gaming mags, but on the flipside, a bad attitude toward something would hardly propagate without some influential friend or magazine farting fire about it. Does anybody remember reading poor reviews of Pac-Man at the time?

Ha! I just brought one of these home the other day from the inlaws (they found it while cleaning up their basement & didn't want it). After I found a power supply for it & a RF-to-Coax adapter for my tv, it is working great.
So far my favorite game is Yars Revenge. But I was surprised by how well the conversons of Frogger and Ms Pacman were, too.
