I was contemplating getting one of the cool "exclusive" japanese Pokemon Center 3DS consoles, but I know that they are region coded so I can't play my 3DS games on it. My question is are there any japanese region exclusive games that make a purchase like this worth it? I'd love to find some shooters (like old school bullet hell stuff, not FPS) to play but not sure if there are any on the console.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

Happy Holidays!

Are there any shooters on the 3ds?

Closest thing to a shooter on the 3DS in the US is Nano Assault. It's similar to Super Stardust and other twinstick shooters, the only problem is the controls on the 3DS are rough since it lacks a second stick (and the game does not support the circle pad pro). If you have a Wii U, get Nano Assault Neo. It is the sequel and way better than its 3DS counterpart. In Japan, I do not believe there are any "SHMUPs" per say, yet.

I want a JP 3DS for the music rhythm game exclusives like Taiko no Tatsujin and the Hatsune Miku game that are only out in japan. My only problem is I am waiting for new colors to arrive in the US for the 3DS XL, and if I import a 3DS I would also want an XL, but I can't see myself importing a 3DS XL until I have a US one first.

Somewhere out there (sorry I don't remember exactly where) there's a guide about how to swap the guts of a US 3DS with a Japanese one so you can get the cool looking system you want and still play your own local games.
