I just got a lot of items in the mail today that I purchased from ebay. A few Genesis games and controllers. Well one of the Sega Genesis controllers seems to have a super short cord/wire. I compared it to my other genesis controllers and the wire is a lot shorter. Any one else know of genesis having controllers some with longer wires and some with wires way to short? The controller I got today the cord is only like 4 feet long. Thats very very short

I wonder if it is the result of repair work by the previous owner. I have had to shorten cords on two Xbox controllers after taking out defective sections, broken by previous owners. Basically, the repair shoves the repaired end inside the controller casing, so it would not be readily noticeable without opening the controller.

I'm pretty sure Sega shortened the cord at some point, I remember the older cords being really long but I've got a few shorter controllers too.

Same here. Although I've only noticed it on 2 of my 3 button controllers. The 6 button seem plenty long.

Controllers for the Japanese market seem to have very short cords usually around 3 feet. I have a six button megadrive and few famicom controllers that length.

That makes a lot of sense seeing I have a pc engine duo and all its cords are like 3 ft in length (av, power, controllers)

Maybe it was made for long armed people?
A special edition one-off for the genetically, physically enhanced? maybe for one of the bored waiting for Wolverine to do something Sentinels, or Mr. Reed Richards Himself????

I always thought it was just a way to get you to buy the extension cord - that they also happened to sell.

The originally packaged 3-button controllers had the long cord. But Sega started packaging the short cord 3-button controllers around the same time they stopped printing "High Definition Graphics" on the console.

The internal construction of the controllers were changed as well, though I don't know for certain if those changes also correspond with changes in cord length.

That sounds about right. The Genesis I got for Christmas in 1992 did not have "High Definition Graphics" printed on it and the pack in controller had the short cord as well.

Yeah I did some research and found out that the first controllers that came out with the first consoles had red text on them and longer cords. Later versions had white text and the D-pad was improved upon. Also on a side note, I just got a Quick Shot controller for the genesis and it's the best! I love the D-pad. it's super spot on and accurate. Can't go wrong with a Quick Shot

I know I had to do that with the TurboGrafx controller. It's just a good thing I didn't get a mutlitap and additional controllers or I would've had to buy a ton of extensions!
