An anonymous reader writes with news that Valve has updated its Hardware & Software Survey for December 2012, which reflects the first month of the platform being available for Linux. Even though the project is still in a beta test, players on Ubuntu already account for 0.8% of Steam usage. The 64-bit clients for Ubuntu 12.10 and 12.04.1 showed about double the share of the 32-bit versions. MacOS use also showed growth, rising to about 3.7%. Windows 7's usage share dropped by over 2%, but balanced by the growth of Windows 8, which is now at just under 7%. The total share for Windows is still about 95%. http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png (http://twitter.com/home?status=Valve+Reveals+First+Month+of+Steam+Lin ux+Gains%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FVqNFkD) http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png (http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Flinux.slashdot.org%2Fsto ry%2F13%2F01%2F05%2F143238%2Fvalve-reveals-first-month-of-steam-linux-gains%3Futm_source%3Dslashdot%26utm_medium%3Dfaceb ook) http://www.gstatic.com/images/icons/gplus-16.png (http://plus.google.com/share?url=http://linux.slashdot.org/story/13/01/05/143238/valve-reveals-first-month-of-steam-linux-gains?utm_source=slashdot&utm_medium=googleplus)

There is nothing more of the story at slashdot. That site is useless.
