I have a Sega CDX system that seems to work fine for the most part. Reads good but every time that I play a CD game (or music cd), the cdrom drive does a counterclockwise spin at the beginning and at the end which seems a little awkward to me knowing that cd's spin in a clockwise direction. A friend of mine has a CDX too and his don't do it. Is this a normal behavior of a different CDX revision of is it mine getting ready to call it quits?

I saw something comparable back when I had one. But I don't play CD games enough to remember much in detail. Sorry...

IIRC on mine, the front LED wouldn't light up if using a Master System adapter. Not sure how it's supposed to handle that.

As far as I have seen there are only 2 revisions, 1 has ground wires between the boards, the other has just the grounding foil. This behavior isn't normal in either revision, but is similar to one of the odd behaviors that a PlayStation does when the potentiometers are adjusted wrong or there are other issues in that region. If someone adjusted them turn them back. Capacitors might do it too.

ok I just noticed the CDX doesn't do it when its cold, the issue starts after 8 to 10 minutes of gameplay once is turned off and on, if that makes any difference.

As far as I know no one has messed with the system internally, and the official Sega CDX ac adapter has always been used with it.
I read the CDX has 4 potentiometer, which one would be most likely at fault?

Thanks

Wait! That's for experienced technical users only. CDX is not safe for the average person to work with, due to its tight packed design.

I guess I'll take my chances if that's what the problem is.

You don't sound very smart if you're just going to start twisting POTs on an expensive piece of hardware without any idea as to what they do. You don't happen to own an oscilloscope to be doing this correctly do you?

Though I won't resort to the name calling/extreme directness of the above poster, he is correct. You really shouldn't go playing with components without knowing the consequences of what they're going to do. A CDX is a little too complex for the average person to do a DIY fix. Maybe try to get in touch with somebody who has a better grasp of what to do.
