Hello,
I am new to this forum. I have 3 arcade games and a pinball machine already, but i've never had to troubleshoot them except for some minor stuff with the pinball.

I recently found a craigslist ad for a vs. Hogans Alley arcade game. The person provided pictures and said that the screen was scrolling vertically, however if you shoot it still makes the gun sounds.

I've always wanted a vs. cabinet and this one seems like it'd be a very good deal if I could get it working. I saw a youtube video explaining that there is usually a few switches to make adjustments on the back of the monitor of most arcade games.

I texted the person and asked how long they've had the game for and they said 10 years and they powered it up recently and neither worked.

I'd go check the games out myself, but its a 2 1/2 hour drive, and I'm not about to do that unless I purchase it.

So my question is what could be some of the issues causing the screen to scroll vertically, while still making the sound of gunshots?

Thank you

My DK Jr. has 4 switches/ pot screws that adjust volume, picture size, h. hold, and center. If it isn't in the adjustments, which I find it hard to believe they wouldn't have already tried that, it could be something as simple as needing a cap kit. Check the back of the monitor to find out what model is in those and get the kit from Bob Roberts.

If the game plays "blind," that is, you would be playing if the screen worked, then it is likely an issue with the monitor. Putting new caps on the monitor almost always helps, and I would start there before anything. Beyond that, it could also be an issue with v.hold adjustment pot or something simple like that. But I would start at the monitor for troubleshooting with symptoms like that.
