The Dreamcast is my least played console. It seems there are not much games that interest me. Where are all the platformers? Also, where are all these homebrow/indie games that is spoken of? I know of Redux, but that's it. Or the Peir Solar port, but that doesn't count(it's a genesis game) There's a lot of cool things you can do with a Dreamcast like use Linux or use ScummVM. I've never done either, but it's interesting the dreamcast potential.

Theres Doujin games made for it, but theyre only sold in Japan really. I know theres Fast Striker and DUX released for it on region free disks so you can play them anywhere. They look like fun hard space shooters. With any of the homebrew and such games youll have to go looking for them yourself to find them. Check out Rayman 2 for platforming. The Dreamcast had some really unique games for the time, and its small library really shines a ton of light on them, so a lot of them arent for everyone.

they are still two versions of the same game, and neither deserves to be called "exclusive" to either platform.
Except that they're not the same game.

Man, this whole Bangai-O debate reminds me of a similar argument regarding Resident Evil that happened not long ago.

Here's a question: Are the levels the same? Is the story the same? If either answer is "no," then the Dreamcast version is a new game.

Thank you. The answer is "No" to both. Case closed.

Yes! Dreamcast has to be one of the best for multiplayer gaming with friends.

The US DC library is actually smaller than that. It is only 246 games.

Actually it's 249 counting Sonic LE and Shenmue LE. <_<

Toy Commander has not been ported to anything. It's reason enough to own a Dreamcast in my opinion.

I agree entirely with the above. Toy Commander is still great. It's a shame there was never a second one.

Shen Mue and Shen Mue II remain pretty good games, as does Soul Calibur, Headhunter and RE:CV. Floigain Bros, Rayman 2 and Evil Twin are surprisingly enjoyable. As it Carrier, thinking about it. The system is so cheap it's certainly worth getting one.

It boils down to semantics. For me those two LE's are just variants, not unique games. And Sega Swirl was not a stand-alone/retail release, so it doesn't count (even though it's on the "official" list).

Check out this list of 30 great games for DC: http://whatculture.com/gaming/30-great-games-that-defined-dreamcast.php

I agree with most of them there. Sega GT I couldn't really care for and Blue Stinger I didn't play.

Yes, it has so many cheesy but immensely likeable games!

Definitely pick one up if the price is right.

The Dreamcast is like $30 at most and cheaper than what you probably pay for a single game. Just buy it already. Take a look at this list:

Rez and Headhunter are not available on NA consoles. They are on NA PS2 though. Frankly, if you go on this Wiki Page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Dreamcast-only_games), you'll see there are very few DC only games. Most anything else it got released on another system. Which was a point I tried to make early on before being sacked by the Knights of the Dreamcast. Now in my case, it's not a bad thing, because I don't like to have ports on multiple modern systems, so that allows me to get a wider variety of games without taking up more space. So I have a DC for many of those multi-port games, ironically.

According to Gamestats.com, Metacritic.com, and Gamerankings.com, here are the overall top 50 and bottom 25 Sega Dreamcast games:

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?118998-Top-50-and-Bottom-25-Sega-Dreamcast-games-list

That should help in determining whether or not the Dreamcast is worth buying.

They aren't available on NA consoles but it doesn't mean he can't buy and play em :) I sure played them and still have them too.
I would still play certain games on their original consoles for the original controls and nostalgia purposes, no matter where or how much it's been ported over, sometimes you want the original one.

100% in agreement here. (Yep, I'm a DC fanboy) and as to homebrews, don't get me started... YEAH!

No reason not to have one! I was/am a huge DC fanboy. At one point I had all the games and some homebrew stuff thanks to burns. Bought the system new and had all accessories. I may get into it again for some of the new games and shenmue again this time I wanna buy an old one maybe do some mods including custom paintjob etc.

Anyway yes you must get one!

A Dreamcast and a spindle of high quality CD-Rs will give you pretty good bang for buck.

No concerns over laser damage?

Still need a bios mod to play imports.

What a nice read, I got my Dreamcast out recently and have been wanting to pick up some more games for it. It's been kinda tough to find much in my area, aside from sports games, though accessories are still fairly cheap around here, so I guess I can count myself lucky in that regard. I've got a handful of titles at the moment (TechRomancer, Capcom vs. SNK, Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star Online, Jet Grind Radio, and Godzilla Generations), with plans to pick up some more both domestic and import. So, thanks for all the suggestions in here.

Its worth owning a dreamcast that plays japanese titles, otherwise, no, its not really worth it. Most US released titles are now available on other platforms...

Lasers read GDRs and CDRs the same way.
If you burn imports to CDR with Alcohol 120%, they play fine without any mod.

Another thing I noticed about Dreamcast sports games is that they are a big jump in quality from the horrible generation before it. When it comes to Playstation, Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64 the Dreamcast sports games are much more playable and look quite a bit better. And it was the last system to get an NFL football series besides Madden. Even if you don't like sports games much the ones on Dreamcast definitely give you some bang for your $0.25 to $2.

The best thing that could happen to SEGA was EA refusing to release games on the DC. That precipitated move to Visual Concepts (2K Sports), which were far better than EA's crud. Of course, 2K ported to other consoles after the DC, and EA, Acclaim, Sony, etc., all quickly copied them.
