I am not really a carboard collector and I don't understand sealed collecting but I was price checking online and I noticed their were a few games that I wouldn't think about buying without the box. Nothing to expensive but for some reason for the price diffrence I really thought to myself I need that box. Oddly enough the game that triggered this was Kirby Dream Course.

I like to have boxed versions of my absolute favorite Atari 2600 games like Asteroids, Space Invaders and Berzerk, etc. Other than that, its nice to have them but far from necessary and I certainly don't obsess about boxes.

Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt! for genesis.

The fact that they used EXTRA PAPER to make a comic book about recycling in every copy is too beautifully ironic to go without.

I'm pretty insistent about my imports being complete (although I don't really give a damn about spine cards, for those who think those are required for an import to be "complete"). Other than that, whatever goes. I'm always happy to get any game complete if possible, and I very much prefer disc-based games to be complete, but I do have tons of loose carts and a small amount of loose discs.

Any "special edition" or other stuff like that which includes any extras like a controller or something. Other than that, I prefer box-less carts. I have aton of boxes from collecting in the 90's when finding stuff with boxes was easy and cheap, but now I case everything in UGCs and storing the boxes is already a chore in terms of space used. I'm never going to have a complete boxed collection, so I don't care of 1/2 may games have boxes (stored somewhere out of site) and the other half don't. Nobody's gonna see the boxes either way, including myself.

Any Nintendo 64 game. While I've sold off many of my original collection, when I do look into new games for the N64 they have to be boxed. The hardest part is finding them in good enough condition for my standards.

There is one exception: Majora's Mask. If I could find a cheap copy of the hologram cart only I would purchase it. Main reason being that I have a complete copy of the Japanese import and would also like a version that I can read while playing!

Lastly, I am assuming this thread was geared towards cartridge games, but I will not buy any disc based game that does not have the case.

I agree on disc games unless it's a really rare and desired disc only like Tomba! or something.

Because all the ones I have so far are boxed, if I'm gonna buy any more SMS games, I feel like I'd want to get them CIB just to stay consistent. Also, while not strictly necessary, I prefer to get my Genesis games boxed when I can. I think it has to do with the type of cases those games used.

Is Tomba really that rare? I got my copy for five bucks when my local video store was getting rid of it. Huh.

Internet seems to be inflating Tomba! Prices right now. Games like Intelligent Qube are probably rarer, but the platformer Genre attracts WAY more collectors than Puzzle...Cube....3D....yeah, I resold the copy of that I found for 50 cents because I didn't really care for the game and was afraid I'd accidentally break it at some point if I kept it. Never have that fear with normal PS1 games but when it's rare...yknow...yeah.

If it's discs based then yes it must be cib for me.For any thing on cartridge on the genesis then yes it must be boxed and all.For the famicom/nes it doesn't matter to me if it's boxed or loose.I can say the same for the snes/sfc as well then,if it's cheaper loose then that is fine with me.

I cant stand it when I see disk games without their original manuals and such. With cartridges the game is protected, with disk games it just seems naked.

I'm on the same boat when it comes to discuss based games. Nintendo carts I don't own boxes for but the carts sit on a shelf nicely. Genesis I can go either way but if I have one in a series boxed (like sonic one) then I like to have the others boxed (sonic 2/3/knuckles) so they aren't seperated. I alson have a habit of not wanting sms games without the boxes since all the ones I have are boxless

All of them. Regardless of the system I collect for I prefer to have one copy complete and in pretty good condition.

Secret of Mana was the only game which I wanted to get complete, and it is. Really if it's a Nintendo cartridge game, I'm happy with it simply being the cartridge but if it's a Sega cartridge title, it has to be CIB.

Have to in these asinine pricing schemes of today ...not a chance as paper is insane. If I can find a manual or box thrown in with a game or if it adds like $5 to the cost then sure I'll take it. I still live in the reality that boxes, manuals, maps, dust jackets, and other bs that came with the game should stay with it and not for an increasing scale of pay out as it had been up until the last few years when greed that killed comics, sports cards, and other shit struck games.

I have a few CIB or CB NES games because they were cheap, manuals came with it, or came with it original retail from back in the day. I have most my SNES manuals of the era too, some N64 as well, few for GBA. I also have a CIB Indiana Jones for N64 I bought from Lucasarts in the day(one of few they web sold before shipping most of it to rent at blockbuster.) I even kept a complete Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis PC-CD talkie game too from the early 90s.

Other than that if it's something that is SD card like sized (easy to lose) DS/3DS or if it's a disc based game it's complete or I don't buy it as cards get lost easy and discs get scratched.

I can understand some games not having boxes, They were just considered packaging like a box a window fan comes in, a no brainer, you toss it out.
But if a game comes in a case with a spot to hold instructions why wouldn't you keep them?
Not sure who buys CDs anymore, but most people held onto the jewel cases.

If i buy a game without the packaging, it's only temporary until I can find one with it.
Once or twice I've mixed and matched different sellers online to complete a game.

If it is a CD based game then yes, I need the case and the manual. If the game is super expensive then i'm ok without the manual, like my megaman 8 on the saturn. A big stack of CDs don't look as nice on the shelf as carts do. If it's a cart game then I don't really care, but for a few extra dollars I'll take the box and manual.
