There are a number of 'em out there and most didn't fare especially well. Excluding the arcade game and Robocop Versus The Terminator (whatever console version tickles your fancy), I think most would agree that the vast majority of Robocop's video game-y outings have been mediocre at best. It's a shame, really, because Robocop seems so easy of a license to work into a video game, so much so that it practically designs itself, and I suppose that may have been the problem. Rather than try to do anything interesting with Robocop, developers of the day mainly gave us the obvious, which is to say a series of cumbersome action platformers set in bland cityscapes populated by nameless thugs.
I'm curious to hear some opinions on the Robocop stable of games, especially as they relate to any favourites among the horde or any strong feelings one way or the other. I, for one, am hopeful that there must be a good Robocop game out there that simply hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, so please enlighten us if you know it to be so.
For the sake of establishing a positive mood, here is Jeroen Tel's cool title screen music from Robocop 3 on C64 (which, IMO, is far more entertaining than the game itself):

The only game I really like is Robocop Vs The Terminator, that's probably the best game there is.
Then there's this.

Robocop Versus The Terminator for Genesis is one of the best games ever! So gory and delicious!

I kind of like the first one for NES. It's tough, but beatable. The Gameboy Robocop is pretty good too, but becomes insanely difficult in the later stages. I've never beaten it.

Robocop vs the Terminator for the Genesis is the best. The SMS version and SNES version are good.

Just got the GameGear version of Vs the Terminator CiB for $6 last night. Basically a port of the SMS one but still a good game. Need to hunt down a copy of the genesis one.
The others? Meh, I'll pass.

Hah, funny this topic should come up now considering I just played a little of all three NES Robocop games the other day. I got them for Christmas as a gag gift, although I do really love the first movie (and its amazing soundtrack). It's funny how the second is the worst of the three, at least from what little I've played. The first and third aren't remotely great games, but they're definitely more playable than Robocop 2, which feels like you're permanently in a slippery ice stage.

Yeah, the slipperiness of Robocop 2's control is way too much. If Ocean was trying to get across some sense of Robocop's weight and heft, having this lurching, train-like inertia is not the way to do it. I'd say the first Robocop did the best (worst?) job among the three released NES games of gimping the controls to feel the most authentically "Robocop", based on what we see of his mobility in the movies; if nothing else, it makes more sense for the guy to be stiff and unresponsive than to be coasting all over the place. Robocop 3 is easily more playable than the first two, but it's still on the cusp of being an awkward mess and it features incredibly bland level design with cheap enemy placement. The proto of Virgin's Robocop Versus The Terminator is far better than the Data East/Ocean Robocop games on NES, in my opinion. Robocop is far more maneuverable which makes platforming much more intuitive, and gunplay/aiming is no longer the hassle it once was.

I want a Robocop developed by Platinum Games! It must be Japanese developed!

How about Retro Studios? I bet they'd make an awsome Robocop game. They could even do an FPS ala Metroid Prime!

I always had a soft spot for the first game on the NES as well as the first game on the C64. Both games aren't too bad, but the C64 one was much better. I HATED that evil TITUS Piece of Crap that was released on the XBOX. It's amazing how badly they screwed that one up. I'm telling you that Titus tries to make these bad games. Even notoriously bad studios like Acclaim had a good game now and then. I can't think of one single good game from Titus, ever.

To be fair, though, Titus only published this one. ASCII made it.

Robocop Vs, the Taerminator is tops, but for a Game Boy game, the original Robocop, by Ocean wasn't too bad considering the platform .
Not sure I'd recommend it, but Robocop fans might enjoy it.
Mostly a side scroller with some other elements like a 1st person shooter stage.

About the only interesting Robocop game was Robocop 3 on the Amiga (1993.) When other formats would have brainless sidescrollers, the Amiga ver had 3-D first-person shooting, driving, flying, and brawling.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I had no idea how much the gameplay in the Amiga version of Robocop 3 diverged.

I had the Tandy Color Computer version and it was just awful. Same with Predator for the Coco.

I have a pirated version of the PC port of that Xbox Robocop game. It sucks. I mean, it really sucks. It does feel like you're controlling a bulky robot. So of course, I've been hunting down a copy for a while now.
The damn thing was only released in Europe though. Grrr.

Maybe you should look towards Africa (http://gameological.com/2013/02/the-pirate-hacks-of-africa/).....

I have to admit that the acrade games look pretty good, at least I don't remember the home console versions being anywhere near this good.

I couldn't stand robocop for the nes to begin with since it wasn't faithful to the arcade version.

That's awesome, Gameguy, I knew neither that there is an arcade take on Robocop 2, nor that there is a Robocop game that plays like this. It's really cool to see a beat-'em-up/run-n-gun (beat-'em-up-'n-gun?) style when so much else Robocop is ponderous, undercooked action platformer.

I found that while looking up Robocop games on youtube, I never knew there were any Robocop arcade games before. It's neat to see the gameplay change a bit too, it changes to a shooting gallery type of game during a level and even includes some first person driving stages later on. Skip to 11:35 to see what I mean on the driving stages.
There was a game based on the first Robocop too, I couldn't find one on Robocop 3 so I'm assuming there's just the two arcade games. It honestly seems lacking compared to the Robocop 2 arcade game.

I used to love that one, although the framerate wasn't too quick (especially on my older Amiga 1000) and I used to get gunned down not too far into the game. Still, it was a seriously impressive title that might have predated Wolfenstein 3D.

I wish the PS1 game amounted to something. Ive yet to play any Robocop game Id actually consider an enjoyable must play.
