someone has this for sale but there is no h-seam so im worried it is a reseal. what do you think? well the images are very small and you cant really see the seams very well. all the other ogre battles i seen on ebay have the h-seam. why would this one not have it? reseal or older seal job? anyone know more about this?

If it differs from all the others, it's likely a reseal. But, with something that small, I can't even really tell.

the seller told me that ogre battle was recalled when originally released and they would not give him the copy he preordered at eb games in 2000 but went to another store and got a copy there just before all were pulled from the shelves. not sure why it was recalled. but guess it was released afterall. anyone know about this n64 ogre battle recall?

Wha? Recall? I've never heard of such a thing, not when the game was new nor in all the years since. There isn't even any logical reason why it would get recalled. It's just a Teen-rated game, and there aren't any glitches of significance to the best of my knowledge. I got the game for Christmas when it was still fairly new (still at the full MSRP), and there was no difficulty in locating it. The game isn't that extremely rare either, which it would be had it only been on store shelves a short time. Sounds like this seller is blowing smoke up your ass, probably trying to cover up something fishy.

I wish I could help about the seal, as my Ogre Battle 64 box does still have the plastic wrap on it (I only cut the plastic around the flap to open it), but it's stored away on the other side of the country. I can say that I don't remember the plastic being any different from the other new N64 games I opened in the same way, but that's just going off of foggy memory. But if you've seen other copies with a different seal job, I'd stay away from this one. I highly doubt Ogre Battle 64 got more than one print run, and they were probably all manufactured at the same factory since it's not like the game was produced in huge numbers. My gut instinct would be that all copies should look the same.

IGN used to be a well ran website for the most part at that time. Their N64 page covered every story possible and I was a regular reader. They even would create an entire news piece on the unveiling of the boxart for a new game. That's just how strapped they were for stories to publish.

Yet I have no recollection of such a thing nor is there any evidence of it in the archive for the game or after a quick glance of a search engine for any information outside of IGN.

It was never recalled.

The seller is a liar. I worked at EB during the N64/PlayStation/Dreamcast era. I was there when Ogre Battle 64 came out and it was never recalled.

Maybe it was some sort of local distribution issue where the guy worked, and he was either clueless or just mis-remembers it as a recall. Maybe. Without better pictures there is no way to evaluate this specific game. There were some N64 games that didn't get the traditional h-seam, but more of an overlapping seam. And as I recall some of those games have both versions (I'm thinking one or both of the Banjo games). I don't know about Ogre Battle, though.

Some games had seal variations but I did not know Ogre Battle was one. I'd have to see bigger pictures to give you an answer one way or the other. I own about 150 N64 games sealed myself.

OP, your images are way too small for us to make an evaluation.

Try hosting the photos externally and link them.

Looks like a reseal. I don't know anything about a recall, but even if it was, why would they open it and reseal it because of that? There's no reason to.

I'm guessing those photos are what the seller provided, so that's just what atariaction has to go off of. Probably another attempt to be deceptive. At the very least, ask this seller to provide bigger, better photos, and if he/she refuses, that's a huge red flag.

With the small photos and the obvious lie, I would run far away from that seller. It's a scam.
