Are you a completist, as in you collect every game for a system, or only games you will play? Are kiddie and girlie titles like Rugrats and Barbie part of your collecting goals or not?

Personally, I don't. I'll never get around to playing them in my lifetime, so I leave them for the completists.

The only kiddie title I ever wanted to get was "Aqua Kids" for Japanese PS2, because its based on a Korean? kids show that was planned for the US but never made it here. Games actually kind of good!

Since kiddie titles are often platformers and the retro ones can be good, I don't mind picking them up cheap. As for GBA era generic horrid licensed games like cartoon network cash-in 50?.....ehhno.

When I think of kiddie games I think of things like Barney's Hide and Seek, or maybe a Sesame Street game. Games in which you can't really lose, and the whole aspect of the game is being extremely easy and accessible for a 3-4 year old.

Stuff like Sonic the Hedgehog can considered a "kids game" at heart, but I just think of them as regular video games.

Only if they're for the NES, and I come across them at a very cheap price.

As far as those go, if I find leapster games for pennies or something, I get them for my cousin in first grade if her birthday's coming up. Besides that, I don't get them.

I just collect what I play, but Rugrats is a good game!

If you're specifically referring to preschooler games when you say "kiddie" then no.
I probably got a few "girlie" Japanese games, (either suprisingly good or hilariously bad, either extreme). Lost Word of Jenny for Famicom. I know it's like the Japanese Barbie, but for like a buck I can't say no to a game with a girlie doll and a cartoon vampire on the cover art. :D

Again, if it's in the kosuge category, it'd have to be cheap though. :)

I would not say that i go out of my way to find them, but i do own many..

I did buy the Barbie Horse Adventures game for the Xbox, but only because it was pretty rare and I found it cheap. I've never had any interest in playing it.

As far as kiddie games go, I don't bother. The ones I own were purchased at a thrift store in a plastic bag filled with other more desirable games. I won't go out of my way to specifically purchase one.

I only buy games that I want to play.

Collect them? No, but when doing reviews on my Youtube channel, I like to cover a wide variety of games. It's kind've my theme. So every once in a while I'll pick pick up a kiddie game for cheap and play completely through it. The two I've done are Miss Spider's Tea Party (PS1) and Cheetah Girls (GBA). I was curious about the games as well, since I had never heard about them. While playing them, I kept having this feeling that can best be described as "I'm the only one playing this game in the world right now." So there was like a 1% chance I would find a hidden gem. Neither of the two games turned out that way though.

I don't intentionally pick up kiddie games since my son outgrew them, nor do girlie games have any collectors appeal for me because I will never play them. That's the same reason I don't collect most sports games either.

If the game is not dumbed down to a "Barney's Hide and Seek Game" level, then yeah, I'll grab it. It also depends on the developer and the type of game.

I won't pick up educational games, for example. But platformers? Sure.

If its a good game, I'll buy it.

Exceptions are brands like Barbie, Mary Kate & Ashley Olson, Bratz, etc. Could be the best Platformer on Earth, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna play a game with those damned twins in it.

Well, I'm not a completist but I guess I collect what some would call kiddie type games. I have a lot of 8-bit and 16-bit Disney games. However, I only collect games I will play. I get the sense I won't like it or won't play it, I won't buy it.

I recently picked up Tigger's honey hunt for the N64. It's not that bad of a game. It's not that great either. I wanted to play a N64 2D platformer and they are far and few between.

Don't turn your nose up to The Little Mermaid for the NES. It's pretty easy, but it's a damn fun game.

Kid Klown in Night Mayor World for the NES is probably considered a young kids game, but it too is very enjoyable.

I've got a small collection of Children's Workshop games (producers of Sesame Street, for those that don't know). Back in the day, the Children's Workshop put out some really awesome stuff, both educational and genuinely fun. I've been meaning to see about picking up the rest of the games they put out from the NES to the Genesis.

Kid Klown in Night Mayor World for the NES is probably considered a young kids game, but it too is very enjoyable.

Funfact: Kid Klown was originally a mickey mouse game called "Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon". They couldn't get the license in america and, not wanting to lose an essentially completed game, decided to redo it with an original character quickly. This also explains why the title screen music sounds a bit like the mickey mouse club march in some parts and why Night Mayor World is the black sheep in the Kid Klown series (The other 2 games in the series are isometric platformers).

Ok, I guess I am secure enough in my masculinity to pick up any and all games for the systems I collect for. Beauty and the Beast, Barbie, Dora the Explorer, Tigger, Barbie, etc. If I am going top ever have complete collections, then those must be included. I do wonder how many, though, refuse to pick up games like these under some kind of fear of what friends and family might say. Me, I simply do not care.

A lot of those 8 & 16-bit Disney games are top notch!

I'm still trying to beat that game too. Unreal difficulty on that thing.

You know, I've written that game off for the longest time for whatever reason. I've just heard too many people saying things just like this and I can't take it anymore...... so I added it to my wanted list. :)

For sure! It amazes me how many of those games are not jut good, but great. I've added some to my wanted list recently that I would normally think has to suck. Stuff like The Little Mermaid and Beauty And The Beast.

Unreal as in the game can actually play itself. :D

For Beauty and the Beast there's two different games on the Genesis, Belle's Quest is good but Roar of the Beast is pretty mediocre. At least that's how I found them to be. As long as a game is good I'm willing to play it, it doesn't matter if they're kids games. I don't care if a game is girly but most girls games are pretty lousy so I can't think of any worth playing at the moment.

This is definitely the right thread for some shameless replyin' too. I collect ALL of the Sega Kids Club games which includes such gems as Richard Scarry's Busytown Adventures, Berenstein Bears, and of course Crystal's Pony Tales! If that's not enough to have to "pony" up the man card, how about Sesame Street ABC & 123, all the Winnie the Pooh and Tigger games for N64, Piglet's Big Game for the Gamecube, Lion King on Genesis, Mario's Time Machine on Nes AND Snes, Tiny Toons 1 and 2, man the list just goes on and on and on. I'm not sure it's possible to have a well-rounded collection WITHOUT a few "kiddie" titles slipping through the cracks here and there, whether or not it's intentional. Also, some of the games I have might not be "kiddie" enough to qualify, but certainly are childish to casual onlookers. What do you say to Little Nemo, McKids, LoZ: The Wind Waker, Mischief Makers, etc? Great games that just are not "raw" enough for a passerby not to laugh at you for playing. It's too subjective for me to make an assessment as to what "qualifies" and I would never want to be left out of playing a good game based on some kind of "Judge a book by it's cover" stereotype. Now if you'll pardon me, I need to go play some Bubble Bobble or Rainbow Islands and finish strong with the New Zealand Story! Peace.

with the atari 8 bit im a completest in the respect Ill try to put everything together if i can find and afford it. By the way some are talking about not collecting them, then for someone like me to add it in then its saving prosperity for the next generation when i hand down or sell off my collection( more like hand down) . But I do love anything that is platform, can never judge a game by the title or cover the programming might be much better than anticipated. I havent bought any of the VIDEO61 brand items yet, but still working on regular releases and oh yes maybe getting my first prototype and salt cart down the road

Boomer's Adventure in Asmik World, Super Princess Peach, Cookies and Cream, Chicken Shoot, Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime, Chocobo Tales, Atelier Anne, Rorona, Totori, and Meruru, Epic Mickey... I just can't think of how many titles I have that probably qualify. That's not even close to all of it, either. Sloan had it right when he said he doesn't care what others think. Your "man-cred" shouldn't depend on others' opinions, and CERTAINLY not on such a trivial subject as what video games you enjoy! This is a really good thread actually; I'm kind of surprised it petered out the way it did. Noone else willing to step up to the plate and expose some "hidden gems" that might have been missed simply because the common perception is that they're not mature enough or manly enough. I think there should be plenty of life left in this thread, because certainly not everyone that knows of some good girly games has spoken up yet. So come on, I wanna know what I'm missing out on!

Absolutely not, I don't buy games just to sit on a shelf and since I won't play them there's no reason to buy them.

I have purchased game collections that have come with kiddie games and when that happens I sell them locally and use the money to buy games I'd actually enjoy.

One of my favorites on the NES is MC Kids which most people would pigeonhole as being a "kiddie" game. I just love the idea of a game based on McDonalds characters being as absurdly difficult as that one is. I needed maps to beat that game, and even then it's a real challenge, I felt a real sense of accomplishment when I did finally beat that one. I never did make it through the extra Ronald bonus levels though.

The Sega Genesis McDonalds game (The one made by Treasure, not Global Gladiators) is really great too.

I recently cleared The Little Mermaid II on the PS1.

Despite its developer (Blitz Games) it's a pretty competent game. It has its quirks but it's pretty fun.

So yes. :P

Also not a completionist here.

So many of those Disney games were top notch, but really because they weren't made just for kids (Little Mermaid may be an exception). Aladdin, Lion King, DuckTales, these games weren't easy!

Certainly not. I know my younger nieces and nephews wouldn't be able to get far in them.

I don't really consider great games that I played when I was a kid, but still love due to their awesomeness such as Aladdin, Buster's Hidden Treasure, Rescue Rangers etc. "kiddie" games just because of their licenses. They were obviously designed so people of many age groups could enjoy them. If something is obviously designed for kids, like the aforementioned Genesis titles like Berenstein Bears and Crystal's Pony Tale, that's another thing entirely. The only games in my collection that were obviously designed in that manner are Mickey's Ultimate Challenge for Genesis and Rugrats: The Movie for GBC.
