I wanted to replace the lens in my original PS1. I ordered a replacement lens off EBay for $10. It's a fairly simple job even though it is first time doing it. It appears the Ribbon cable on the lens they sent me was way too short! If u compare it to the one that is in the PS1 there is now way it can reach its plug without moving the lens and stretching it...which I did and ended up with a snapped to ribbon cable. I asked the company for a replacement and indicated they may have sent me the wrong replacement t part so they sent me another package with the same crap inside it. Are they sending me the wrong part or am I doing something wrong?? Is there a way to make it work. The part looks exactly like the original except with very short Ribbon cable. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Maybe it's because the different model PS1s used different lasers and you ordered the wrong one for your system?

I think your terminology might be what's screwing this up for you.

Do you own a "Playatation" or a "PSone"? That lens is for a PS1, not an original gray rectangular PS.

If it's for the Grey PSX (not the White PSOne) there were board revisions that had 2 or 3 different CD lens carriages. There is one with a long feed, and one with a short feed, based on if the laser was pointing horizontally or vertically. Did the list the SCPH number of what drives it was compatible with? You need to search for a lens with the matching SCPH found on the bottom sticker of the deck.

having just done it i can tell you for certian that PSX version SCPH 1001 is the short ribbon cable version.
its the model with the composite RCA jacks comming right out the back of it and they are prone to skipping.

barring a couple of oddballs and rarity systems as long as you have a console with RCA jacks you'll want a short cable

if you dont have any RCA jacks on the back you'll want the longer version cable.

with that being said though, for other people looking at this, if you need a short ribbon cable laser assembly and all you have are long ones, the long ones work on both systems, you'll just need to tuck the ribbon cable out of the way so the case doesent pinch it when you put everything back together

The one posted is most definitely for the PSone (PS "slim" if you will). The light gray color pretty much gives it away.
