This months EGM has a write up blurb about DP. At the very end they make mention of Playstations not being aloud on the site. Maybe someone didn't do enough research.

Maybe someone just wanted quiet playstations. Maybe someone just didn't study their vocabulary words in 4th grade.

LOL

EDIT: HAHA Sniderman, I win baby! :-D

Yeah, whoever wrote up that piece clearly didn't check the forum or review sections of the web site. So it's inaccurate, but cool to get a mention nonetheless.

So what else is new? Just a couple of years ago, remember how CNN said that Nintendo "pioneered video games?" It was posted here, in fact!

Indeed, you editor types (like John Adams) are obnoxious and disliked, (that much is true) and it's largely because of your gramer and flasiness.

My vocab sucks, yeah I know, big fucking deal.
Run-on sentence, btw.

Yikes. Has this degenerated into a free-for-all or what?

For the record, I would allow Playstations here if I were in charge. How else are you going to play a nice looking emulation of Sinistar on a console? If only I had mod power.

*shifty glances*

O yes, my precious, we'd show them. Nassty forum usersesss.

There are several known facts about collecting for CD based systems 1) the CD/DVD's don't have the shelf life of a solid state game media and 2) a large number of the consoles won't be functioning in 20 years.

My Atari 2600 will be working when I'm 60.

But that doesn't mean they aren't allowed!

Sure, every system has a finite number of disc spins in it. But that's why disc-system enthusiasts will lay in multiple decks. Also, I have yet to actually see a CD whose data layer was flaking off due to age. One day, maybe, though... :/

..Yea, but I have seen a SMB cart run over, thrown down a hillside, tore open and the SOB still worked.

I'm sure there will be someone producing replacement cd drives for at least the PSX,PS2, Saturn, DC in the future if the original companies aren't. There are a number of small companies producing replacement PCB's for old Stern, Bally, Williams and Gottlieb pinball machines. That's a much, much smaller niche market than the millions of console owners out there. You can still buy record needles too.

I thought the "No PlayStations allowed" comment in EGM was odd, but we have an unusual charter around here. We're probably one of the few classic gaming sites that doesn't view classic gaming as "old stuff" exclusively. You'd think a quick peek at the news page would reveal our true nature.

*shrug*

I don't even understand what it would mean to say a certain system was not 'allowed' on the site.

Frankly I'm amazed that the DP forums haven't netted one of the EGM staffers yet. I shudder to think that all of EGM's experiences with gamers online has been from the IGN, GameFAQs, and Gamers.com Forums!!!!

1) the CD/DVD's don't have the shelf life of a solid state game media

As long as the disc is made properly, this should not be a concern. For most 'classic' CD games, if it works today, it should work for a lifetime.

The drive mechanisms may be a different story, but they are not beyond servicing. A little preventative maintenance would extend their lifetimes a great deal.
