So this is one of those "I have a vague memory of a game" type questions. I remember playing a game on NES when I was really young in the late 1980s early 1990s. I believe it may have been Zelda, but I am not sure. The only thing I remember about it is that it was combat oriented and that you had a one time use only ability that would flash the screen with fire (I believe I remember a firebird or phoenix showing up on the screen with the fire) and you could not use this ability again. I've looked up Zelda 2 and it seems familiar, but I can't find any reference to this "spell" or "ability" I have a memory of. I know there were other abilities, I have a vague memory of a blue colored ability (I know that doesn't help at all). That's all I remember.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks.

In Zelda 2, there is a Thunder spell you can use only once at a time as it takes up almost all your MP to cast it. And you have to use it in order to beat a boss called the Thunderbird, which is already on the screen. It is red before you cast Thunder on it. Once you do it turns blue and you have to stab it in the face with your sword a few times to finish it off.

It must be Zelda 2. I remember the gold cartridge. I never faced that boss though. I remember playing the game for short bursts at a time as I was really into Super Mario Bros. and this World War 2 plane flying game (I think you flew a P-40 Tomahawk). Thanks guys

guessing 1942 or 1943 for this one.

It depends on whether it was a top-view shooter or a flight sim, I would think.
