oh?
To me would be the odd ball games like Mythologies Sub Zero and Special Forces Jax... Which I don't think is at all necessarily rare but not as easy as finding your typical Snes/Genesis MK 1,2,3 games. Hell i would think the 32x game would be harder then those. Its just i never see them turn up in second hand shops.

Uh, the original PCB board for Mortal Kombat 3 arcade without the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 upgrade is somewhat rare due to the fact that almost all of them were upgraded. Besides that, you got me. I know MK2 for the 32X and Saturn are somewhat uncommon, but they aren't super valuable or anything.

Mortal Kombat 3 (Jewel Case Version) for the PS1 is pretty rare and hard to find from what I hear.

I didn't think MK3 had a Jewel Case counterpart, did it? I thought it was only released in the longbox, and by the time they started releasing stuff in jewel cases, MK Trilogy was out so they didn't even bother.

The rarest Mortal Kombat games are the wavenet boards.

Contrary to this article, the ROMs have been dumped not too long ago.
Also, there have been rumors of a Mortal Kombat Trilogy prototype arcade pcb, but nothing has ever surfaced.

How about the version for the Tiger R-Zone? I'm sure those were all tossed away years ago by disappointed children, there must be very few of the left now.
The game.com games are getting kinda rare, there's a MK title in there.

MK 2 didn't get a domestic release on PSX, did it? I think I've seen foreign versions, but never a US copy. It wouldn't make sense for it to have since MK3 came out very shortly after the consoles launch.
Another expensive rarity is MK3 for Game Gear which also may not have gotten a US release, I'm not certain.

PSX MK3 had a jewel case.

MK2 never made it stateside on the PSX, just Japan.

I would say the rarest MK games are
MK 1 - 3 on the sega master system
Mortal kombat trilogy for the PC (Complete with the big box)

PS1 MK2 was only released in Japan. According to GameFAQs, even in Japan it was released two months after MK3.
I've also heard MK3 for Game Gear was only released in Europe (maybe even UK only?). Which surprised me.

I don't know if you're being serious or not, but most of those post-1990 Sega Master System games you see are just shit ports of Game Gear games from South America.

It's a shame SMS never got ports of Fatal Fury Special and Samurai Shodown.
The Game Gear versions are surprisingly good, and a far cry from janky Street Fighter II.
The MK games for Sega's 8bit systems all seem to use the same gameplay engine, with different characters and backgrounds swapped in.

I remember plonking down $75 USD for SFII' on the SMS about 15 years ago, man was I horribly disappointed. It looks fabulous until you see it in motion, then it's a jerky framey mess. Even as a packrat and SFII collector I ended up selling it just a few months later.

The Brazilian Tec Toy exclusive? It STILL sells for $70-150 on epay. Mercado Livre is littered with them for like $5.00-$15.00....such is life...

I use to think the PS1 Japan only Mortal Kombat 2 was rare as well. It used to sell for $80-$100 easily but these days seems to hover around $20-$40 on average.

To echo some of the other comments, the PS1 Jewel Case version of Mortal Kombat 3 is next to impossible to find. I sold one on these boards about a year ago (maybe longer?) and I was told it was the 3rd publicly confirmed copy.

Because Mortal Kombat 3 and Street Fighter 2 were only released in Brazil for master system and like all Brazilian exclusive Master games, they cost an arm and a leg if you dont have a Brazilian contact.
Also not many people realize this but a truly complete copy of Tec-Toy Street Fighter 2 came with a blue 6 button master system controller.

It's not rare because it was never released, but around the time of MK Trilogy there was talk of Mortal Kombat I & II Duo exclusively for the Saturn and PC.
It was in several game mags at the time but as far as i know nothing ever materialized.

I kept waiting for that for ever and ever, and never was sure if it ever actually got released until years later I found a site saying it never got released.
And whoa, a 6 button SMS pad? lol Brazil, never change, you guys do some crazy cool shiz.
