Friend of mine wants to play retro consoles like Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, etc. He has an iPad, are any of those available on there in some kind of licensed compilation? I have no clue what's on IOS. He's not someone I think has interest in getting the physical consoles again. I may just tell him to get a Flashback for the 2600 stuff. Shanks....

There's a few great ones:

Atari's Greatest Hits
Midway Arcade
Activision Classics
Namco Arcade
Capcom Arcade
Commodore 64
Vectrex
ZX Spectrum

Probably some others that I'm forgetting, and there's a version of MAME that's been up there for a few weeks now under "Gridlee" and you can easily side-load the arcade roms in via a program called iFunbox with no jailbreak.

There are also a lot of companies that have individual classics up for sale. Sega has a BUNCH of Genesis and Arcade ports up there and SNK are putting a lot of great ports up.

Tanks. So really nothing from the old consoles? Think I'll tell him to get a flashback.

Depends on what you mean by "old consoles"

There are a lot of straight up Sega Genesis games ported, arcade versions of games that went on to be NES-era classics in the Midway and Capcom collections, and both the Activision and Atari collections have hundreds of Atari 2600 games in them.

Both Activision Anthology and Atari Classics work best with an iCade or similar bluetooth controller.
