Vectrex Controller Question

My brother just gave me his Vectrex.

The controller's buttons are not responding well. I have to push down very hard on certain buttons to get it to register.

Does anyone have any luck popping one open and fixing this problem? It sucks that there aren't any screws because I feel like I might break it by trying to open it up.

It'd be awesome if someone produced a replacement controller or an adapter to use other controllers.

Also, where is the best place to get the multicart?

You have to remove the label on the controller to get to the screws. (use a hair dryer to heat up the label) After that it's just a matter of removing the screws and cleaning the contacts on the fire buttons.
