So I was in my local thrift store today, and behind the glass case with the higher end games I found this game priced at $45. I've never heard of this game before. Can someone give me some insight to this game?

It's a side scroller beat em' up where you can choose between the characters from Double Dragon or Battletoads. It came out on the NES, SNES, and Genesis and it's a pretty good game. I'd suggest picking it up. However, not for that price. It's a desirable game but you can find it for less on eBay.

It's Battletoads without the sadistic level design, selectable Double Dragons, and an Asteroids stage.

It's VERY fun. My favorite version is the SNES one.

What these guys said.

Also its not that rare (especially not the SNES one) so $45 is kinda pricey unless its CIB.

One note though... I remember the second stage of the NES version having a really rockin' kick-ass tune, but then the Genesis and SNES versions... have something that just sucks. Am I remembering right, or does the tune actually suck on the NES too?

It's the NES version and just the cart. Since it's a thrift store I was thinking about throwing out an offer. You think $35 is a fair price, maybe less?

I was so glad I found this place today. I never new there was a place in my town to buy NES games. I had both of my kids with me so I didn't have much time to look around, but I saw alot of $1-$3 stickers, now given those games might not be at the top of my list, but definately peak my interest about what all they might have.

The NES version actually does go for around $45 exactly on ebay shipping included - due to the fact that it's an IRL store, you had to drive there AND taxes apply to your purchases, I don't think it'd be too much trouble to get them down by that much.

I definitely advise you to try and get a copy of the SNES or Genesis one sometime, though - the genesis one is a prettier port of the NES one, and the SNES one is a tiny bit more enhanced and the AI seems a tad tougher, but both are winners, and half the price. Plus, the main theme kicks WAY more ass on those.

I'm all about a deal, but throwing out $20 might be too low. I'm going to offer $30 and see what happens, $35 is the highest I'd go. I have no doubt they got the $45 price off an eBay listing. They have to know that at that price in a Thrift store it will sit for a while. From the reviews I've read people seems to like this version better than the original.

I found a loose NES copy at a thrift store for under $5, it's really fun. For a thrift store where I'm assuming nothing has been cleaned or tested in any way, and everything is final sale I wouldn't pay anywhere near $45 for a game unless it was something worth hundreds more. You might as well buy it online fully tested for the same price, or no more than $10 at a thrift store if it's completely untested.

True, it's not really on the top of my list right now so I'm going to pass. It's kind of strange that they had that one game priced so high. They had copies of Mega Man II & III and Ninja Gaiden for reasonable prices, plus all the other low dollar games were $1-$3.

This is a great tune. Just saying.

What is interesting about this game was that the three ports of it came out in graphically ascending order. The NES version was released June, the Genesis version was released September and the SNES version was released December. All in 1993.

well no dice. I offered $30, he said $40, then I said $35. He said he'd put it on ebay before he sold it for less that $40. Oh well. Thing is it's not really costing him anything to hang on it unitl he gets the price he wants, so you can't really blame him. Now what is debateable is if he'll eventually get the price he wants. I felt $35 was more than a fair price.

though it's a thrift store, evidently the owner has sort of a "gaming" business that he runs a well, he says he get's stuff in everyweek and has been doing this for about three years, he has alot of novelty stuff as well. I will say that as I looked around he had an old 'Pulp Fiction" movie poster (a sceen shot) listed for $40 and some junky ass CRT's <32" for $40. I serioulsy don't see how this guy makes $. Who the hell is going to pay $40 for some old ass poster? I did get black box "Golf" for $2.50 and "Blades of Steel" for $3 which I felt was reasonable. I honestly don't understand the TV pricing, I went to Salvation Army and they too had old ass TV's for WAY too much $.

I fully expect the Battle Toads to be sitting in the same case when I go back next month, this joker is the only person in my city that sells old games, so for the cheaper titles he serves some sort of purpose.

Some people I really don't get.

Rather than sell it for $35, he will sell it on ebay and hopefully get $40 out of it, ~20% of which disappears immediately due to fees. So he'll really get like $32 (hopefully) out of it, plus have to spend time shipping it. To make more than your $35 offer, he'd have to sell it for at least $45 online, at which point he would make a whopping dollar.

Granted these are rough numbers, and maybe he'll gouge on shipping or something, but still...

You guessed it. Over four month's later and the same game is still sitting there in the glass case! Take a guess at the price... $45. This store also was trying to sell Balloon Fight for $23, I offered $18 (I can get it BIN on Ebay for $15) and they turned me down. The one retro game seller in my town and I made up my mind today that I'll never go back, no matter how much I wanted to support them.
