I want to wire a 8 pin DIN plug to my phono cable, but I don't know what goes where.

I have already tried to follow this guide: http://www.stageselect.com/N174-make-a-composite-video-cable-genesis-ti994a.aspx

The mentioned guide is about a 5 pin DIN. I fitted it into my SMS I, and got sound, but no picture. Then I realized that it was not even the correct no. of pins (my SMS has a 8 pin DIN plug, female, on the back), but I think they are somehow compatible (I don't think anything is broken by me inserting the 5 pin plug, at least...).

Can someone point to an easy-to-follow diagram of what goes where with regards to soldering the 8 pin DIN plug to a phono cable? Or can someone help me with general guidance on the matter?

SMS outputs RGB alongside composite. 5 pins isn't enough for every signal.

If you just want composite video you don't need an 8-pin DIN cable. Here's the pinout for the SMS/Genesis AV out if you're interested, I use this image for reference and it's never failed me:
