I am now the proud owner of a Master Gear converter, so now I can play my SMS games on it, but I have a question about doing so.

On the box it says that you can't use Light Phaser, 3-D, or Sports Pad games with it. I assume that it's because they use peripherals that can't be connected to it, but what does happen if you try to play them?

Also, I've seen that some games are listed as being 50Hz (PAL standard), does that make a difference to the Game Gear?

PAL games for the most part can be played fine, although some games (Chase H.Q. comes to mind) will run a bit screwy due to the fact that it is being run on a faster standard. As for light gun games, well, they'll run, but you won't be able to shoot things, 3-d games will look shaky unless you can switch to 2-d mode. You can switch to 2-d in Outrun 3d easily in a menu, and you can switch to 2-d in Space Harrier 3-d by getting a high score and inserting your name as "three". These are the only two 3-d games I believe that have a 2-d option for the system. Sports Pad football is the only game that I know of that actualy requires the pad, but there may be more I am just not thinking of at the moment. These will not play correctly either, but of course will still run.

If you try to play games that use the Light Phaser, you obviously can't start the game because the Light Phaser isn't hooked up to the simulated SMS (the Game Gear). Same thing goes for Sports Pad games. If you play a 3D game, the screen will keep moving left to right rapidly, but you can play them.

As for your 2nd question, I haven't tried playing 50 Hz game on my GG, so you might wanna look up an FAQ for the Game Gear.

Hope that answered your questions! :)

Hmmm..there are a few SMS to GG adapters that allow you to hook up a controller for player 2, but even if you could start a light gun game as player 2 this way, I don't think it'd work well with the lcd screen.
