Hoping you guys can help me out a bit. I'm looking for information about Innovation's line of colored ps1 controllers. They were clones of the standard SCPH-1080 controllers. They looked like this:

Which other colors did they come in? Blue? How do they compare in feel to the official pads?

aside from forcing the system to only function with that specific controller and going bonkers on their own at random when you try to play a game on an original fat ps1...
Theres a mad catz controller that also erases memory cards and forces the system to only function with that specific controller. Third party controllers and oldschool fatboys are not a good mix. I dont know if the slim model improved upon these wonky errors.

Well...damn.
I just got one of these the other week. It's an interact piranhapad. Hope it doesn't do any of that crap:

wrong choice of words......they are crap controllers for my reason stated. Aside from they may function properly on the slim model ps1, I dont know though. They are a nightmare for fatboy ps1s

I have a wide variety of 3rd party PSX controllers and have never had any of the problems mentioned. Please explain the methodology by which an Innovation controller could make your PSX console not recognize any other controllers, or even wipe out saved game states on a memory card. I just do not see that being possible.

I heard of the PS3 locking out 3rd party hardware on a system update. Never heard of the PS1 having the reverse, a lockout from a 3rd party controller. Proof on this?

I used that thing for hundreds of hours playing RPGs and never had a problem.
I wouldn't mess with some 3rd party memory cards though.

theres plenty of info on the internet about it. Third party controllers and mem cards are terrible with the original model ps1.

I have never seen that controller before but it looks great. I'm gonna have to hunt one down. I like the fact that it has a real d-pad instead the the horrible segmented Sony design.

I have never had a controller cause any issues, but I had several Mad Catz 2x memory cards that would do all sorts of crazy things. They would actually override the controller port and act as if buttons were being pressed and delete and or corrupt memory card saves.
After I realized what was going on I only used Sony memory cards.
