Simple rules:
A game you think is awesome, but your friends hate it.

Mine is Kunio-Kun Dodgeball/Super Dodgeball for the Famicom/NES.
I don't know if my friends hate it because of River City Ransom, or if it's because I've been kicking their asses at it for the last 14 years.

I prefer the Famicom version, simply for the funny-ass cut scenes.

The Cho Aniki Series (especially Ai Cho Aniki).

I love them for the insanely creative artistic designs and EXCELLENT music (and, in a few like ai cho and the original, the actual gameplay), but most of my friends can't get past the massive homeoerotic focus.

Cho Aniki Reminds me of Parodius in a lot of ways.
I totally need to add those games to my collection of homoerotic pop culture stuff... they'd make an excellent back drop for my "Gay Bob" doll.

I keep telling people about the Japanese bullet hell games, and most people are like "How can you even play those?" To me a lot of the mare fair with continues, so I dont see why so many people are scared of them. Oh yeah theres also DIFFICULTY SETTINGS! I guess they just dont want to try new things.

JRPG's, a friend of mine cant stand that in turn based combat theyll just stand there and be hit. Oh well, sometimes they miss. I tell him theyre based on table top games combat wise, but he just doesnt like seeing his guys get hit all the time without trying to defend themselves.

Sewer Shark and Ground Zero Texas.

Still need to find the 3DO version of Sewer Shark and give it a try though, supposedly it looks amazing compared to the Sega CD version.

Never heard of this. Google and Youtube search resulted with nothing.

Sewer Shark.

I thought I was the only person who liked that game, period. So good.

As I stated here a few times, I like Heavy Nova, but even I don't know why. My friends are actually right for not liking it.

Sonic Adventure

I second this.

And also Greatest Heavyweights for Genesis. Idk why I like it, I just think it's fun :)

I don't like the game too much, but the intro is fucking amazing.

All of them?

Since all my friends play only modern games. They will spend a couple of minutes humoring me, but usually they're bored to tears with retro games.

I'm sure these will count:

Castlevania Adventure
Link
Zelda (yes, those; I've been playing them recently)

Probably a bunch of others too (I love the Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes, for example)

I always have loved Pitfighter for the Genesis, and back in the day my friends could not understand why.

I don't know about "hate", but there are plenty of games I love that all of my friends have absolutely zero interest in ever playing. Usually the cutesier, sillier stuff. Stuff like Tail Concerto, Solatorobo, Mega Man Legends, Rhapsody, etc. My gaming friends are all guys, and the types of games they like are a bit more masculine on the whole than what I'm often into.

One of my favorites that gets crapped on a lot is Fester's Quest for NES. Yeah, it has some questionable gameplay design choices, and it's quite difficult, although not unreasonably so like Blaster Master is, but overall I think it's very underrated.

:o How could someone hate Super Dodgeball?! That was my favorite arcade game for years, perhaps still is since it's hard, the AI is kind of evil, and the time limit is just nasty and the routines are random too.

For me though I'd think at least with online friends as it goes, it would be NES-Silent Service. People seem to shit on the game but never can give a real solid reason why though, at least not a good reason why other than just not liking it. If you read the manual, see it can play on 1, but really needs 2 controllers for all the functions, and get how to stalk Jap war and troopships properly it's a really fun game.
