I figured I would post this here, since I'm mostly into collecting classic games. But anything modern will be taken into consideration as well.
My sister and her boyfriend left for Japan today. They will be there for at least a year going to school/working. I have some ideas for things I would like them to purchase for me.
I guess some suggestions/opinions. Not into pokemon or stuff like that.

It could be worth your while to go after popular japanese commons or moderate-commons you're after while they're there; They're cheap enough that your sis won't break the bank getting you something, and expensive enough in the hands of greedy import re-sellers that it's not worth it to just get them otherwise (and even on fair sites, international shipping usually cancels out any semblance of what could be considered a deal).
I'm sure there's plenty of other crazy stuff you could go for, but that's what I'd recommend.

There's enough flippers on eBay if that's what you're asking.
If you come across _________ in good shape I'll pay well for it though.

Kit Kat bars, 360 exclusive Japanese Bullet Hell shooter games, Great Saturn games that werent released here or ones like Guardian Heroes which costs less in Japanese, other types of cool snacks and candy, if not anime then other crazy japanese tv shows and movies that arent released here like Vermillion Pleasure Night. Go to Hardoff, Lukemorse has done some videos, damn that place rocks. I love Japan, honestly if you could you should go there a few times while theyre there and stay at their place and go around everywhere and check out sites, them having a place will make the trip a lot cheaper. Go to Akihabara and walk around into Super Potato (used game store), and walk around the gizmo stores. Get someone who knows what games you liek and get them to read over the Comiket catalog and go there to buy Doujin games, which is where the Touhou Project games are sold.

Hey SOL BADGUY thank you for the videos it sure makes a gamer dream..
I'll be going to japan in about 2 years and my main goal is to come back with full of gaming related items. I wonder if there are any stores that has english materials to sell or which console is compatible US NTSC without problem. I'm really into RPG too so I wonder if there are good store where I can buy RPG related material like stickers, action figures, posters from popular RPG franchises and hopefully not just the modern stuff :P

Akihabara is a great bet for used game stuff, theres even one store that only sells arcade boards. Theres plenty of power adapters that are sold which you can get there or here, since America and Japan are both NTSC its not a big problem. Of course thats not the only place to get stuff. Theres so many specialty stores for things there, I really want to go so bad, but cant. :( Be sure to check on the importing cost of bringing all the stuff back, not sure how it is if you buy used games though. But if I went there Id buy a Famicom,Super Famicom, NEO GEO CDZ and Turbo Duo along with the cheap as hell hucard games. The retro prices arent over inflated like here for the most part. Id get a camera and always leave it on and upload to youtube everyday.
Oh and this may help you out when youre thinking how to act over there.

PS The reason why Iwrote Kit Kats in my first post above is because theres DOZENS AND DOZENS of different flavored Kit Kats in Japan, everything from Sea Weed to Bitter Almond, which Ive had and its very very good.

In Japan, pretty much EVERYTHING are sold in vending machines. This includes videogames and even SYSTEMS. Put in enough yen and you can get a PSP out of a vending machine.
No joke.

Keep the ideas coming, as she is my blood sister, I do not see why, at least some, of these things shipped back would really be gifts. So that should help with the BS customs charges.
Her boyfriend speaks fluent Japanese and has been there already, a handful of times. I believe he did the same buying some video games there as far as commons and other things. I am really hoping to be able to go visit them while they are there, but I already have a few big trips coming up this year. One of which is celebrating my 30th bday in Slickrock, Moab, UT drinking and offroading which are 2, of a few, hobbies of mine (=
I am almost done with my Engineering Technology cert. program, and hoping to get a paid internship at one of a few local places that offer this during the summer. IF I get this I would totally be able to afford all my trips and more.

It is really funny that this was mentioned..
At my sister's going away party, her boyfriend was saying that the last time he went there one of his friends asked him to find some. He did not. But this led the convo. to one of our good friends who was inquisitive about the topic and made for an interesting convo. nontheless.

Ahh I wanna go offroading. There are very few places here in Texas to do so. I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 with a solid axle front end but never really get to do serious offroading in it. Hmm that reminds me I should get it lifted too.

I'd advise you to not buy in Akihabara. It's a nice place to walk around but they are very much aware that tourists will pay hand over fist for things they cannot get in the West. If you are ever out of Tokyo check out any second hand store for racks of games at a fraction of the cost.

Ship anything and mark it as a "Gift". All customers papers also have English translations. Unless you are a business supplying another business you shouldn't have to worry about customs.

this. cool place to be....dont buy there. Tell your sister to visit some of the nice ancient temples in the countryside and to stop off at any used media stores while there.
Famicom games and Super Famicom games. Something like Gimmick! which dumbasses bid up to $500+ on ebay can be had for $200 or less within the country. Just make a list of whatever games may interest you and send it to your sister, guaranteed she can find it for 50-90% less than what it normally goes for from western resellers. My buddy found a Lot Lot Gold Members Version in a random mini mart for the equivalent of of 3 bucks, thats a $1000 game. Sometimes you REALLY luck out.
and the best snacks are cola flavored Shigi Kix. Mango Bubbleicious is also only sold in Japan, black currant flavor is damn good too. Orange Calpis is the best drink from that country.

You need a Famicom as well to use that Disk System, unless you have a NES top loader...... Best bet (and she can probably find one cheap) would be the Twin Famicom. Its the Famicom and FDS built in to 1 unit without having to hook all this and that up. Shipping from Japan is going to be expensive regardless for a Disk System or a Twin Fami.

Not opposed to adding more stuff to my collection. Afterall, I do have a temp-controlled storage unit. I think a couple people I know are military stationed in Japan. They would probably be willing to help out. They are the type of people who visit state side frequently when they are stationed elsewhere.

Meiji is a Japanese chocolate company, so Japanese stores in the states or else where probably also carry them. Asahi does.
