Firmware 3.55 is needed in order to install custom firmware (CFW). CFW is needed to load emulators and play NES, SMS, or whatever games you want to play on it.

Many sites state that one can install CFW on any system, but I think...THINK...this is false.

It's easier to do so on the Wii, PSP, PC...too much hassle on PS3.

Buy sonic ultimate genesis collection for ps3.

Oh yeah, and Ive seen several copies marked down a lot, in the clearance sections, so its an amazing deal. Tons of great games for $20.

Yeah definitely, I love it when new consoles come out since the PS2, the collections have been huge.

Oh, and Im sorry if my first post sounded mean, but the only consoles last generation that were good for emulation were the PSP and Wii, but theyre kinda limited. Your computer has gigs of storage space, and the roms for NES and Genesis are only kbs big. I put my entire NES, SNES, Genesis, NEO GEO, GB/C/A, NGPC, PC Engine Hu Card games, their emulators and even some isos on one dvdr yesterday as a back up. And trust, I have way more Genesis games than in the Sonic collection.

Dreamcast, PS2, and the original Xbox can emulate the NES and Gensis very well, just as an FYI. Also, the Xbox can emulate most everything else from that era and before. If you're into emu on a console, then a soft-modded Xbox is a great thing to have and isn't too tricky at all to mod ;)

Wii is also really easy to softmod (all you need is an SD card) and it does true low-res 240p. It's a great little emulation machine.

In my experience, the PS2 is great for emulation, I use the free mcboot program. However, it is much harder to mod than say, an Xbox or a Wii.
