Sega made the classics 4 in 1 collection, which was four genesis game running on a Sega Cd. So is it possible that someone finds something in the code to boot any cartridge rom from a cd? That would be awesome to play rare games like M.U.S.H.A. or even cool translation hacks like monster world IV and nhl 13 on the real hardware!!

I've wondered that myself, however the only option I can think of that even close to that would be a mega everdrive.

I can already imagine a nice custom dvd insert for monster world IV on thecoverproject with the red genesis stripe!

Ah, no.

Unfortunately it appears that the Sega CD doesn't have enough system RAM to hold a normal-sized game, at least according to these dudes (http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?9008-Sega-Genesis-to-Sega-CD-ROM-converter). It CAN be done, but you have to do a bunch of reprogramming and it's kinda uh, pointless.

Here's a flash cart which will allow you to upload games to it using the Sega CD: http://products.genny4ever.net/megacart_v1x.html

I could swear someone asked this EXACT question a couple of months ago, and got pretty much the same answer.

You can however burn iso's of Segacd games to cdr and play them. Thats close to what youre asking, not nearly as great number of games, but still theres some gems hidden under the FMV shit heap.

ive often wondered if thatll work. tried the same way as dreamcast but it didnt work only burned game that worked was the sonic megamix home brew. and that just said "just a readme? how does it work? its magic" or something to that effect.

is there a different process to it?

Getting CDRs on the DC is a doddle. Seriously, Google it.

I'd never even considered it with the Mega CD though. Now there is an idea.

Theres no piracy lock out on SegaCD so you can run cdrs on it.

Dreamcast you need to boot them, on cdrs they wont, unless you have cdi(not the console) files from the internet, or a utopia boot disk. Also you need disk juggler to split the data onto more than one disk since Dreamcast games are over a gig in space sometimes.

Or you can save some trouble and just use Kega Fusion to play SegaCD games, and other Genesis and 32X or Game Gear and Master System games.

Im using NullDC to play Dreamcast and Im very happy with it, but it still has a long way to go to be as perfect as Genesis emulation is. You need cdi files of games to play on it too, but theyre easy to get from one or two sites i trust.

I remember that topic. Or I'm suffering from a severe case of deja vu.

I know, thats why im asking if it would be possible for a rom to run on a cd! Already burned the classics like snatcher, working designs, etc. with custom dvd case, that way i can preserve the originals! *cough* *cough*

Like I said on Atariage where you posted the same topic, it is doable but you would have to hack each game individually in the same way Team Megamix hacked Sonic 1 and made the Sega CD version of Sonic Megamix. It would take extensive knowledge. Sega didn't just cut and paste roms to make the compilation games and Sega CD versions of Genesis games (like Ecco) work. They actually only copied the assets and created code to port each individual game. So if you were going to recode other Genesis games, you would have to make sure the game would be compatible with Sega CD hardware in the way the data is handled and have enough programming knowledge to make the ports.

If I were you I would go on Sonic Retro and ask members of Team Megamix in a private message who was the one who did the programming that resulted in the game changing from a Genesis rom to a Sega CD image. Then ask that member for pointers in doing so yourself.
