Hello all.

Today, I purchased a Sega Genesis. When I went to hook it up to my (HD) TV, some games would run fine, some would run with a lot of static, and some would take a lotttt of work before they fired up. My question is, is this the system acting up or just the fact that I am using an HDTV right now as opposed to an old tube TV?

Are you using an RF connection with your genesis? If so, other devices can interfere with the signal and create static. It's worse for some games than others depending on how dirty they are and will do it regardless of TV type. My treadmill caused this and it's why I've been trying to switch all my console connections to at LEAST composite.

Could be capacitor issues if an early model. Many over 20 years old now.

Try getting the composite cable. Not great but the only cheap/easy upgrade.

In any case HDTVs are more sensitive to the video quality they receive, and Sega Genesis is known for its poor encoding.
Luxury setup would involve cost/hassles of converting RGB into useful form...

I am using RF. I may try to fiddle around with unplugging other things connected to my TV. However, my NES runs great on RF, maybe it could be the cord?

If your Genesis is a model 1 (does it have a headphone jack? if so, it's model 1), you could try using your NES cord with your Genesis to find out.

Yeah, it's a model one. Does the NES just have a better cord?

Good advice. I switched the cables, and it works like a charm!
