View Full Version : Help! Storing / Archiving manuals

As of now all my manuals are in bags and its hard to sort and keep in a professional way. I was thinking of investing in binders and sleeves (like the kind that hold polaroids and kodak photos) but that seems to be an expensive way to do it... Is there a particular brand / size of sleeves that work well for most manuals? This would be for all manuals from Atari to N64.
Any ideas? Comments? Solutions?

I put them in a cardboard box, alternating directions. No sleeves or anything, and they stay pretty flat if you alternate them. Like trading cards and other paper goods, they should be fine if they don't slide around or you handle them a lot.

I just put my manuals in the boxes of the game they're for.

...anyways, I too go with the ziplock bags, although it is considerably harder to get those larger manuals (early PS2, NES, etc.) in there. the box idea also sounds kinda good, I just may have to try that ;)

I use 3 ring binder pages that fit manuals, like these:

They fit every kind of manual I've thrown at them, from VCS through N64.
I got them at the Atariage store, but it looks like they're all out. I bought a ton of them, so if you need some, send me a pm and we can work something out.
I keep mine in plastic shoebox sized bins. Works very well.

I also use benders to store my loose manuals... however... for complete game I do something some people here may find crazy (and maybe it is). Because they are so fragile, and because of the space they take. I fold the boxes flat, insert the manual inside and warp the wole thing in a plastic sleeve. I thought this would damage the boxes on the long term, but it doesn't. I have folded some of them back to 'box mode' and they look fine. This way, I can keep the cartridges separate. This obviously only works for systems like the Atari 2600 and co, or the Super Famicom. But I have saved a lot of space this way...
Does someone think the above could damage game boxes on the long long term ?...

I store my loose manuals in the "rental" style cases for the nes snes and nsucky4, each one holds quite a few and it keeps them safe and fairly well organized.

I do this for my loose manuals as well. I believe it's a Rubbermaid container, so it has a lid and everything. It works really well for over-sized manuals (i.e. the Virtual Boy manual). It may not be the most preservatory option, but I think it gets the job done.
Otherwise, I just store them in their original box.

I use the EXACT same sleeves boatofcar uses up there. Find a big baseball card binder sleeve dealer on ebay that carries all the sizes. Works GREAT for overlays as well (intelli)

They're Ultra-Pro 2-Pocket sleeves. You can usually find them at any comic book or card shop.
