Beyond oasis is very similar. Has tons of puzzle solving and top down view combat.

Super Hydlide is like the combat system of Zelda 1 combined with the time/hunger system of Minecraft. It's pretty cheap.

Crusader of Centy is the closest zelda clone you're going to get, of link to the past. It....is VERY expensive.

Also, the Genesis one is Beyond Oasis. Legend is on the Saturn.

I wouldn't recommend that to someone specifically looking for Zelda type game. It's really much more a full blown action RPG, instead of action adventure. Everything you pick up (including money!) has weight, you can't just kill every monster in sight as some will make your karma (or whatever they called it) drop making the game a lot harder, etc.

Great music though, some of my favorite tunes on the Genesis. And unique, I don't recall any other games sounding similar.

Morality Factor! That part's actually pretty easy to figure out -- if it doesn't attack you, don't kill it -- but Super Hydlide is just packed with stumbling blocks, gotchas, and ways to potentially make the game impossible to finish (e.g. it won't stop you from throwing away a needed item). I personally liked it, but it's definitely not for all tastes.

I have bought beyond oasis around 2001 brand new and sealed for 20$, and for some reason played it once for 15 minutes. I must say its a very good rpg, I have been playing this for the last week and it is one of the best looking genesis games, and also a top 3 rpg on genesis IMO.

The only overhead action adventure games I can think of that have yet to be mentioned are Technoclash and Arcus Odyssey. Also, continuing in Alianger's Zelda II-ish recommendations, there's always Cadash and Exile if you're after platform action stuff with light RPG seasoning.

Yes, Cadash and Exile are excellent, platforming-RPG's for the Genesis (and underated too if I might add). Maybe not the best choices for Zelda type clones but fun games nonetheless.

I wouldn't recommend,cadash for the genesis since it lacks the ninja&priestess.Heck the turbografx 16 version does and is pretty close to the arcade original.

I got the Sega version for under $10. For that price, may as well get it.
