I know there had been quite a few topics of this issue but i am in the need of help here.

Yesterday i bought for 18 dollars a SNES Mini with no hook-ups, and too see my disgrace that ALL BUT ONE had the AC ports broken, which has been my major peeve and issue, and i been struggling to find an SNES for awhile that has a non-broken AC jack and good pin connectors, the pin connectors were more or less, decent, contrary to a previous SNES i had (model 1) that has loose pins.

However, i did a test of it with my AC adapter i bought with me to check it, just in case, since the guy told me it was "tested", and i tough he was just being the "used car salesmen type", if you know what i mean, but what was my surprise that when i plug my adapter, IT WORKED!, it turned on and the games boot properly.

Also i knew i could repair the jack port with a replacement, or so i tough, so i bought it, and so far it works most of the time...........except one time at night i disconnected it to check the metal pins on the port and check they weren't far away from each other, and that time it didn't turn on, or so it seemed, since the game dint boot, but then i blew to the cart, and then it did.

When i plugged the adapter it makes a clicking sound?, is that a good thing.

Here's some pictures.

The SNES previously booted up with no use of the "cardboard trick"

My Peeve is that i heard from a board that a SNES with these problem will eventually die after a few years.........and since my SNES is used, i really felt like i did a bad choice, but is just that i really wanted an SNES Mini for cheap and desperately, oh and mine is a legit one, cause i had so much problem getting one.

So i need some of the best advice i could get.

yea a/c adaptors shouldnt click, it sounds though that the a/c adaptor could be going bad if the rest of the system seems to be fine.

i've never bought a system with a broken plastic pin in thejack like that either but if i did and i really wanted to keep it arround and working like a mini or something i would probably fix it before it became a problem. while your at it in there you can clean all the junk out, if there is any

I forgot to say, the thing that may click may have been the console and the jack port, not the plug.

I Really dint wanted to come off as i am spamming, but i really do need help, maybe i need to explain myself better.

My SNES mini does work despite the broken Jack port, but when i inserted, it makes the clicking sound, what could it be? the Adapter or the console, plus even without the cardboard piece, it makes a good contact despite of that, so i want to know?

since there are no replacements for the jack ports of the SNES mini, what should i do to keep it alive?

what could be causing the clicking sound

How long it will last with the precautions, and how difficult is to Mod it to use a Genesis Model 1 Jack port?

Because, i honestly cant go back to the SNES model 1, specially after how unreliable has become to me, the unappealing design and the yellow-fication (my SNES mini it's de-colored a bit, but is not trough the levels of ugliness i saw on Model-1 ones)

I would just get rid of it, sell it cheap and take a small loss. Live and learn, i see these all the time. If you dont look for the broken AC adapter port at time of purchase you will get stuck with one sometime. Ive found more than one snes with the broken AC adapter port, and I always sell them for like 20-25$. Its not worth the time or effort to fix and its really not super hard to find a super nes in good shape.

Also, Ive never heard of these systems with the broken port breaking sooner because of this. It doesnt make any sense. I would think if you keep pulling the AC adapter cord plug in and out many times, yeah it could easily get fucked up and render it broken. If you have it hooked up and dont mess with it it should keep working.

If you're skilled enough to replace the jack with a standard one, that'd be decent enough. Then just sell the original power adapter.

It'd likely cost some $20 postage both ways to have repairs done at a distance...

I'd suggest replacing it with a 5.5 x 2.1 mm jack, the same used in the Super Famicom and model 1 Genesis. You would have to do some cutting and filing to replace the old PSu jack and get the new jack to fit, but it would be a far better option than trying to find an exact replacement.
