Sooooo...what's up with the framerate? This looks like Virtual Hydlide or Aliens Vs Predator on the Jaguar. I am playing it in 3d mode, but even changing it to 2d mode doesn't help.

And if you thought aiming was bad on the 360 version, wait til you try it at 4 frames per second.

I wonder if they can patch this? It's seriously a deal breaker. If I'd have known it would be this bad I wouldn't have preordered it.

That's really a shame. We have the 360 version and planned on replacing it with the director's cut for PS3, but if the framerate is this bad (which is something several people have pointed out in the comments to IGN video review on youtube), then might as well keep the 360 version and rent out the PS3 version eventually (or get it once it drops significantly in price).

It's odd because the cut scenes look like they're running at 60 fps, but when the gameplay hits, ooooohhh man.

Maybe this is swery 65's way of messing with us. " sure, well fix all the problems and introduce a huge, glaring new one."

Amazon finally decided to ship my order about a week late, guess they either sold out or had low stock to begin with, anyway word is on gamefaqs that dp directors cut seems to run better on og 60 gig models of which I have one, i also run mine with an 250gig ssd drive so I'll see how that affects the frame rate (assuming it runs off hd)

The broken frame rate just adds to its "WTF is this?" charm.

So basically you're saying that it runs better on the older models? While I currently don't have a PS3 I am looking towards trying to acquire an older model Backwards Compatible version so I can do some testing on some of the PS2 games that I have written guides on. And I definitely want to get this game so I won't have to hunt it down when I do acquire a PS3 (and add more info on my "Deadly Premonition" guide). I am curious if the frame rate problem also affects the Japanese version of the game, "Red Seeds Profile". It would seem to me that they ported over that version, localized it, and added the new stuff for the American version. One advantage that the PS3 has over the X360 is the ability to switch out hard drives with any another type including SSDs. I wish I could use SSDs on my X360.

Based on the posted video it appears that the whole story may very well be a dark childhood tale. This makes things more interesting. It also appears that they have fixed some of the control complaints as far as I can see.

I'm playing it on a 60 gig and it still runs like shit.

It's deadly premonition. if it had a good framerate, I would be upset.

jk, i bought it but haven't played it yet. impressions seem to indicate that the really bad drops happen in specific places and the rest is just how the game is, even on 360. hopefully they patch it by the time I get around to playing it in June of 2037

I finished downloading the digital version and it looks fine to me (nowhere near as choppy as the above video). I bought my PS3 last November too.

The cutscenes are fine. As soon as you enter the red room for actual gameplay it goes to he'll.

Not really. It stutters when there's a monster and a lightning flash at the same time but I've been running around with no issues. I just ran into the Raincoat Killer for the first time so I haven't gotten too far into it yet, so who knows what'll happen later, but so far it's nowhere near as bad as what's in that video.

no thats the thing, the original release red seeds profile had none of these problems, for all intents and purposes it was the exact same as the original xbox 360 release

i've got the digital version. Played through the conversation with Polly so far. The frame rate is definitely worse in the red room and during parts of the prologue, but I can't say it was too bothersome. I was more happy about the enemies not taking too many hits to kill! If the frame rate doesn't get worse than that section, I won't be disappointed. I could still pull off headshots just fine and this game doesn't require frame perfect inputs. and aiming won't matter once I get infinite ammo weapons anyway.

Now if I get crashes and out of bounds crap, that will suck.

Driving through green vale is unbearable. It's like virtual hydlide. I'm done with this game.

I have a 5.1 setup and the mix is so wonky that it won't cross over into the subwoofer. My NES crosses over into the subwoofer.

Would I be right in saying that this is very much a case of "buy the original?. Are there any good points about this version? Dire frame rate pretty much makes this a "no" for me though.

Okay so ive spent about 3 hours playing so far and i honestly havent seen even 1 instance of stuttering. The game runs as smooth as the og xbox version, im up to the lumberyard.

Here are some of the pros or differences from the original that i've noticed so far

Obviously better and higher resoltion textures now that its all running in 720p
The camera is now pulled back so that york is always in full view
Camera is easier to control
Menus are lightning quick
Map pulls back a little more and doesnt rotate with you making it slightly less but still pretty much useless
Controls are much improved
Cars dont mysteriously jerk to the left or right for no reason anymore
Game seems to be permanently set to easy difficulty or possibly easier
No green filter over the graphics (not a real pro, just a preferance thing)

Cons

York voice seems to be filtered thru a metallic chamber at times, it seems completely random, his voice is accompanied by distracting echoes
This only happened to me once but the music was clipping and stuttering at the title screen, 2nd time i played, no clipping
Driving with R1 fucking sucks
Voices during cutscenes sometimes randomly sound distant and low volume compared to the bgm
No water textures
When picking up or observing certain items there is a very noticeable slowdown in the game

Thats all ive noticed so far, again im still pretty early but these were just my expierences, none of that stuttering that other ppl are getting, just a consistant 30 fps or watever it is, might be because my game is running off ssd on an og 60 gig or maybe im not far enough in the game before it really kicks in

I have been playing it in stereoscopic 3d, and I turned that off tonight. Things improved somewhat. Frame rate hiccups are still frequent, but not nearly as bad as when the 3d was on.

I have plenty of other ps3 games that run in stereoscopic 3d at 60fps, like wipeout hd, so this is odd. Oh well, at least it's more playable now.

uh, wipeout probably had a 100 guys with millions of dollars to make it, this had 5 guys with $5 to make it LOL Same goes for a lot of 3D games on the system-- they all seem to be big budget, big studio.

I can't answer the obvious follow up of "why did they put it in in the first place"? I thought it was really strange when they announced 3D for the game and now it's obvious they should have focused on getting the frame rate up.

10 hours in, still ZERO stuttering.

i guess this really is just a problem depending on model, 60 gig is still king of the hill :)

Is yours Backwards Compatible by any chance? Just asking.

Yes.

I have the original release 60 gig, full backwards compatibilty with ps1 and ps2

Its been reported on some other forums 60 gigs have the least problems and newer super slims the most

The only other thing that could contribute to why my game runs so smooth is mine runs off a 250 gig ssd

Only problems i can report seeing are some random items cause slow down when picked up for a few seconds and once my game froze when exiting the panda shop, everything else runs as it did on 360

So glad i picked this up, i never realized the amount of content i missed the first time around in terms of side missions and collectsbles, looks like im going to gave to platinum this :)
