So I recently scored some Sega Master System games on Craigslist as one of them was a mint Phantasy Star. It was complete, but also had a 4 page stapled hint sheet from Sega of America with hand drawn maps. It is so informal and unprofessional it has unique charm compared to the over the top industry of today. Have any of you seen any Phantasy Star hint sheets like this or any other Sega of America hint sheets for any other games?

I will actually scan these and drop a link here in this thread for any of you that want to print them off.

I once purchased a strategy guide from Sega, for Shining: THA. It was basically a photocopy of what appeared to be a draft for the guide. I can post a few pics of it, if you'd like.

Whoa, that's awesome. SoCal, please do scan those pages and post them. I'd love to read what they had to say. Phantasy Star 1 is one of my favorite retro RPGs.

sega made these for other games as well. my cousin had an sms growing up, and he had hint sheets for alex kidd in miracle world and ghostbusters.

I believe they were willing to send them to you if you called in on the hint line they had for the games. I picked up a lot of SMS games from a woman several years ago then had a couple of printouts like these in them, I'll have to check if I still have them around.

Please scan these!!

To be honest, I've been putting off this game for awhile because I find it exceptionally difficult (I didn't start playing RPG's until around Super Mario RPG). I want to make it through as much of this game as possible without referring to a guide, but if I have to .. I'd like to use something vintage like this, just for the charm of the age and all.

the key to success is to level grind. spend the first hour doing nothing but battling near the town you start at and return there for free healing. save often.

There's no point in scanning them. They're already online (http://www.smstributes.co.uk/view_page.asp?articleid=242).

Yeah, I had trouble finding the last boss in PS, and when I called they offered to send me what apparently this thing is. Sadly, I declined and asked if they could just tell me where I needed to go, which they did. I wish I'd let them send me that hint sheet, just would've been a great thing to look back on now.

Someone tragically missed an opportunity here to print the pages on blue graph paper.

Thanks for this! I am actually excited to use a retro walkthrough for this retro game!

(I am a notorious sissy when it comes to getting lost in RPGs, I love hintbooks/strategy guides/FAQs etc.)
