Sorry if this topic has been done before, but...

What are some of your favourite underrated NES games out there? I'm not talking about cult classics like River City Ransom that every NES fan knows about nowadays, but those gems that NOBODY seems to ever mention, but that you think are excellent games.

My pick: Clash At Demonhead, one of my favourite NES games of all time. It has lots of areas to explore (with a built in map), interesting characters, good story with various plot twists, hilarious dialogue, many different items and weapons, nice music, replayability, and multiple endings. And I think that the early style of anime-type graphics in this game have aged well. This should have been a smash hit, in my opinion. My tip for trying this game: if you can resist the urge to hit the power button in the first ten minutes, you'll be glad you did.

So, let's here about your closet classics for NES that deserve a another chance.

How about Solstice, does it qualify?

I like it, but it is very f%$king hard to finish.

I think Demonhead and Solstice are popular games that seem to get the credit they deserve. One great NES game I never hear anyone talk about is Nightshade. Interesting game play and story. Very funny too. Also has incredible graphics for an 8-bit game. It's only drawback is that there is no save or password feature. Check it out.

Blue Marlin....that game rocks.

How about Dynowarz, that game was cool too

Puzznic and Krazy Kreatures. I also never hear anyone talk about Nintendo World Cup, even though RCR is mega-popular.

There was a side-scroller platformer by Sunsoft called Journey to Silius that I always enjoyed. It came out after Batman (still the best Batman game ever made), and followed through with some really great action. And the music was just terrific.

I'm waiting for someone to defend the Wisdom Tree games. Ha!

I would defend one particular Wisdom Tree game any day: Spiritual Warfare. I think that that game is great. It's like Zelda, but with a kooky Christian twist, and it has a lot of depth. It's on my top 50 list (laugh all you want).

The Guardian Legend is great for fans of shooters and adventure games. If you like any of the games in the Aleste series (ie Xanac, Space MegaForce, and MUSHA), you'll enjoy this.

Goonies II! One of my top five NES games, ever.

Has an awesome soundtrack, lots of weapons, and Metroid-esque exploration.

I think The Guardian Legend gets its due. Google regurgitates a good chunk of fan sites dedicated to it. I would have recommended Rygar until recently, with the PS2 sequel and all, but it seems to have always been somewhat popular too.

I always thought the music in Dragon Spirit was stellar, I think the NES port is usually glossed over or neglected pretty much.

What about Crystalis? I never hear too much about this one but I remember loving it as a kid.

I never liked it but I know a few people that LOVED Wall Street Kid. Eww.

Fester's Quest, by Sunsoft. A liscensed title that actually rules. My only complaint is Cousin It is missing. Come on, he's the greatest Addams Family character ever! Ah, well. This game's music is also really great.

What about Crystalis? I never hear too much about this one but I remember loving it as a kid.

Crystalis had a most righteous Gameboy Color port. SNK never made a Neo Geo sequel though, those fools! Fools I say!

I thinl Crystalis gets its dues for the most part. I hear about that game all the time, and people were always raving about it during the 8bit era.

i agree, crystalis gets its dues and i've never played it.....everytime i go into a video store they talk it up.......and when ppl talk things up i feel like i'm at a car dealership and i dont buy, give me the raw facts and i can make a decision on my own.

I hear about it many times, people tend to call it 'World Cup Soccer' though.

Underrated NES games

Adventures of Rad Gravity
Great action/adventure game, the only who talks about this game seems to be me.

Batman: Return of the Joker
Many people talk about the original Batman, but I rarely hear someone mention Return of the Joker. It has probably the best graphics for the NES.

Burai Fighter
This is a frustrating game and I probably hate it, still it's pretty good.

Nigel Mansell's World Championship
A really good F-1 racing game for the NES, really I think I've never saw anyone mentioning this game.

Section Z
An innovative shooter, it's mentioned once in a while.

Shadow of the Ninja /Blue Shadow
I sometimes hear about this game, still I think it's a great game that's underrated.

North & South and Mappy-land, if you're into those kinds of games.

Zanac. Outside of the shooter buffs, who else really has this title come to mind when they think "great NES games"? Whenever I mention it to people who like the NES they just give me a blank stare.

Little Nemo Dream Master, Anticipation, and Bionic Commando

I always throw Kickle Cubicle into the list of "great games," and you don't hear about it too often. Much like the Lolo games, but I play this one more often.

Another one I enjoy immensely is Ultimate Air Combat. Graphics are OK, and the game plays a lot like Top Gun--for a while. Then it plays more like a top-down flight sim, much like the later, more popular Jungle Strike (and its sequels). Very fun game. Can't beat the weapon selection either--backwards firing missles, lazers that shoot straight down.... gosh I love this game!

I'd say Maniac Mansion the game never was that big when it was out.

I used to play thet game for hours!

Shatterhand and Powerblade are great action platformers.

And all you Shadowgate/Uninvited/Deja Vu fans, listen up:

Play Princess Tomato inthe Salad Kingdom! Now! Very similar play, different menu, different company, but very cool....I remember when I was 15 I played it for 15 hours STRAIGHT until I beat it. Only game a I ever did that with....my second longest on any game (Final Fantasy 2...or maybe it was VII) was 5 hours or so.

You guys mentioned some really great games, some of my favorites...good thread!

There are a few games that I would consider for this group.
Gun Nac: a great shooter, addicting, at least to me.
Cobra Triangle: anybody else?
High Speed: one of the best pinball videogames. ever.

You don't hear many people ranting about Solar Jetman. It was a super action/adventure title done by Rare. You went around exploring planets, searching for treasures and fuel. Not the best game on Earth, but I find it to be great fun.
